Driver Has Stopped Responding - Nvidia Driver Crashes

Just adding my name to the list of people that the polling rate fix has worked for. Changed it to 5000 to begin with which massively reduced the crashes but didn't completely eradicate them. Increased it further to 6000 and not had a single crash in the last two days. Was crashing every 30 mins to 2 hours before the fix. Cheers chaps.

He obviously doesn't care what people think. He quoted me out specifically on the basis I mentioned Greg noticing problems with AB open, probably because of a poor choice of words. I replied to him on Guru

You're brave

It never stops to amaze me how people change their words when talking behind someone’s back and face to face. Don’t you even assume that I could read whole thread @ OCUK and see your thoughts posted there? What’s a point in coming here and talking to neurotic, who don’t care what his users think and simply don’t know what is going on inside his software? Especially, if you’re even not using MSI Afterburner. Please try to entertain OCUK forum readers in some different way, cross-forum trolling is not the best idea. ;)

I did warn you :p

This is why he has no friends, the fact he classes it as trolling is a testament to his social understanding lol

Can't blame him in some ways - there used to be a couple of people here in the early days who were really knowledgable of GPUs, etc. and left after having to deal with certain individuals (who fortunately are now perma banned from this section).

Point still stands and its not a slight on those bits of software that they are well known to cause issue sometimes with driver updates and should be the first thing people try removing - i.e. the whole 320.18 killing GPUs issue seems to have been largely due to a poisonous cocktail of those drivers + evga precision + certain types of software that did mining type activities (mostly malware). In this case the fact that adjusting the polling in AB seems to fix or defer the crashing is just odd - almost like its keeping a certain part of the GPU "awake".

As far as AB is concerned he's done nothing wrong nor have I or anyone else implied it. It's his attitude towards the community that stinks, and me saying it stinks and him reading it, after 3 or 4 years of the same treatment doesn't change that.

Anyway, hopefully NVIDIA can fix it so people can leave him in peace.

^^ As much as I don't have a particularly high opinion of his approach to end users of his software the thread is straying a bit close to a personal attack which wouldn't reflect well on these forums.

Can someone do me a favour? Anyone got Crysis 3? Does it load OK for you on the latest 353.xx drivers?

I get a weird crash as or just after the intro videos with a "D3D Device removed" pop up error (never seen the like before!), and THEN the usual driver stopped responding. Currently trying 353.12 again for Witcher 3 SLI testing. And got polling rate set at 7000 in Afterburner.

With 347.88 it works ok.

Just ran it, working fine, running 353.06 drivers.

Also running Afterburner.

Thanks for trying that bud. Ah well, seems these latest drivers issues get weirder and weirder for some, including me unfortunatley :(

Anyone else try Crysis 3? Am loading and running it through Origin if that makes any difference? ('enable Origin in game' is not enabled if that makes sense, I've heard this can cause a few issues)

**EDIT** - JUST TURNED AFTERBURNER OFF COMPLETELY, AND IT LOADED AND WORKED FINE! I Double checked by then running with AB turned on again, and got exactly the same "D3D Device removed" pop up error and then driver stopped responding (AB polling rate still at 7000).

Looks like there could definitely be something in this Afterburner causing the problems after all!?? Shall I tell Unwinder, do you think he would take it and respond well? hahahahahahahaha etc (I'm being slightly facetious, I love Afterburner, used it for years. Nvidia had best sort this **** out soon).

I had a second tdr (of the innocuous crash to desktop kind) with witcher 3. Happened right after a video cutscene like before. This is with 350.12 driver & galax 970.

Been over a week since the other tdr so it's not exactly frequent or repeatable, but looks like it's got to be something to do with going from 2d to 3d.

-- Weird thing. A bit later on after the witcher tdr the computer started tdr-ing over and over on the desktop.

Can those of you who have had any Driver Has Stopped Responding and or Driver Crashes in games with the latest drivers more especially 353.06 and 353.12 please reply.

It seems to be happening to more and more people now with Nvidia based cards, as such ManualG has stepped forward requesting more information, see here - http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=399780

Most people are pointing fingers at Nvidia, while others are pointing them at MSI Afterburner and EVGA Precision.
http://forums.evga.com/m/tm.aspx?m=2343546&fp=1

It happened to me today as well, in all I counted nigh on 16 driver has stopped responding crashes while using chrome (HW ACC OFF) and one driver crash while playing Witcher 3 causing it to corrupt all my recent saves. The previous driver 347.88 and 350.12 have been perfect. My 980 GTX has been faultless since purchase

************ POSSIBLE FIXES ************

I knew this would be the right place to come for some sort of answers or help :D
I have just got my self a 980 and have been getting the black screen problem when running games and sometimes on benchmarks I knew this was not a PSU problem as this is not my first 980 and runs stable on tests just games.
I have tried the physX to CPU on wither 3 and this worked well no crashes at all running the most up to date drivers, but does hit my fps a little on maxed out.....Also tried the nvidia hair works and this helped with crashing. I shall try to insert the settings I found worked well for the 980 on most resent drivers. I have got the whole game maxed out but in the screen shots you can see three settings are changed (Grass density:High, foliage range:High, hair works:Off) These for me worked really well. Also try between full screen and windowed this made a difference for me, hope this helps.
I have yet to find a possible fix for all the other games though at this moment which is a shame, I am pointing my finger at Nvidia on this one plain and simple my other 980 was fine on past drivers 350 and below.
Following links are for wither 3: http://prntscr.com/7gn17y :http://prntscr.com/7gn1lc
This worked if you do not want to change the physX to CPU well it has for me.
EDIT: I have yet to try the Afterburner polling rate but I have just changed it and will inform if it helps......Pfft Nvidia plz.

Had my 980 Ti for a few days now but only today really got any time to sit and play and after maybe 2 hours of TW3 experienced my first crash resulting in the system tray message regarding the Driver stopped responding but has now recovered.

A few interesting things I noticed but possibly unrelated, Shadowplay recorded videos seem to run with lag and stutter when viewing in VLC player.

Also I experience the occasional in game stutter on TW3 and GTAV, initially I thought (and mentioned in another thread) that it was because I put the core clock to +200 in Afterburner, but then putting back to 0+ made little difference. I solved that somewhat by uninstalling Afterburner and putting EVGA Precision X on instead, GTA V I had to lower Grass from Ultra to Very High as thats a killer on fps and that seems to be running smooth again. TW3 I get occasional stutter, all settings on Ultra apart from Nvidia Hairworks. Games running on a Samsung 840 Evo SSD, so not sure if the stuttering in TW3 is game related or driver related, I had a quick experiment putting shadows and grass density the next setting down from Ultra but seemed to make little difference to stuttering. It feels like back in the days of running games off a regular hard drive and when parts of a map load theres a second delay or so.

As I was typing this (Windows 7, Firefox) the Aero has changed to Basic theme, so Drivers are looking rather suspect I think, I am using 353.06
