Driver Has Stopped Responding - Nvidia Driver Crashes

I am running sli GTX 670 and the driver kept crashing every 1-2 hours of Witcher 3 gameplay. I tried many different drivers, closed the Gforce Experience crap, tried the polling thingy in MSI afterburner and neither worked for me.

Turned out that one of the cards, the MSI twin frozr auto-boost clock was unstable and had to down-clock it a bit. Had no problems after that. My gigabyte goes up to 1202 with no problem but the MSI one goes up to 1189 and crashes. I think I've only experienced that in Witcher, must really push the cards.

Been over a week since the other tdr so it's not exactly frequent or repeatable, but looks like it's got to be something to do with going from 2d to 3d.

Indeed. The only crashes I have had have been when making a transition between the menus and the game. It is a power/voltage related issue I am sure.

I stopped getting crashes when I stopped using MSI afterburner. My overclock is still working so I don't really need it.

I now have this issue....

Access denied: failed to make changes

massive sigh...

Try turning off everything that might be running as an admin. I had huge issues with shadowplay as the main .exe was set to run as an admin but geforce experience couldn't run it as an admin so it just failed. It persisted between installs as windows remembers the file paths of applications to run as an admin.

I had tried disabling ab and rivatuner, downclocking the cards, reseating the cards, different sli bridge, sli enabled and sli disabled, one card at a time, clean install of drivers several times, max perf in CP, disabled geforce experience, changed polling times to 5000ms,used drivercleaner software, couldn't use 350.12 as the driver would not recognise my 980ti's. After trying so many things I have solved my driver crash issues with this method:
--download latest drivers
--power off router
--start pc in safe mode and use driver cleaner software
--reboot and install latest drivers whilst disconnected from the internet hence windows can't access update centre and install it's own basic drivers first.

This has resolved my issues totally, spent hours on witcher 3 and far cry 4 with no issues since doing this yesterday, before i would get crashes approx every 15mins. Hope this might work for someone else too.

Not best just removing your ethernet cable from the PC instead of switching the router off?

I imagine you're doing that to stop windows installing any nVidia drivers after bootup? I'm sure you can disable that anyway.

Yep, Display driver uninstaller even has an option to disable this for you.

Thought I'd give the latest 353.12 another go to get the best (still poor) SLI performance out of Witcher 3.
So on Saturday I uninstalled old faithful 347.88 with latest DDU, whacked on 353.12 and applied the 6000 polling tweak to afterburner, made sure hardware acceleration still off in chrome etc etc.

I had no desktop crashes all weekend and the Witcher 3 performed well (I don't have game crashes anyway).

Great, I thought.

Turned my comp on just now, started writing an email and got 3 desktop crashes in a minute!

Aaaand....another....one.... jus ttttt ...now ...tr y... i..ng to write this ****ing post!

Still broken. Still no word on a fix from Nvidia. Really really poor show this.

LOL. Not being funny but if I was getting that many consistently I'd stop and find out just why. I've not had any. I had a hard crash in Witcher 3 over the weekend but that game is ropey in that department anyway.

After being GPUless for two weeks I'm not looking forward to these trash drivers.

Time to go on the Nvidia forums and tell them I'm about to switch to AMD Fury. All about keeping these guys on their toes. :)

Those that are getting crashes - do you have Samsung Magician running? (The UI/system tray icon not background services)?

I don't think there's any point us trying to dissect what's wrong. It's clearly the fault of all the recent nvidia drivers in the 353.xx range.

Just Look around the web, absolutely loads of people having issues, yet on 347.88 and 350.12 absolutely no crashes at all. We just have to wait unfortunately.

I do but I have just about given up on anything related to my issues with GTA V

in fact I give up on trying to understand anything Nvidia.

Try without it running - Magician does some "bad" things with DX that randomly cause issues for some reason.

Obviously something has changed at driver level but I just find it odd that it effects some people so badly and not others.
