Drivers to meet with FIA over Hamiltons driving

i think massa put himself out of monaco by driving on the marbles in the tunnel.

And what put him on the marbles? Lewis was right up the inside of him, he'd just clattered into Massa at Loews (or whatever the hell that hairpin is called these days) so the Ferrari was already damaged, and whatever else you might want to say about Massa he's not entirely devoid of braincells - he isn't just going to drive onto the marbles given that he would know it would mean a big accident. Look again at when they go into the tunnel - the two come into the first camera shot side by side with Massa on the outside, already on the marbles long before he finally loses control and slams the wall. His options at that stage are:

1) brake to let Hamilton get away from his inside and move over (and braking on the marbles would probably still result in losing control)
2) move over on Hamilton, causing another collision and almost certainly ending both their races
3) try and hang on around the outside (which he seemingly did)

Nice of Lewis to leave him with three very bad options, wasn't it? Lucky for the McLaren team, Massa didn't go with option 2) or they'd have had an even bigger repair bill from that race :D

so hamilton put massa out by cleanly overtaking him?

he could have:

1 not driven onto the marbles in the first place.

2 that part of the track is a full throttle accelerating zone so he could have just lifted off the accelerator and moved in behind hamilton who would be still accelerating out of the tunnel. as you say he isnt 'devoid of braincells' so should know he wasnt going to get the place back.

Seriously, hammy is hammy, and some of these other drivers really need to grow a pair, especially Massa, who has been a complete wuss since his accident.
Yeah, how dare nearly dying change his perspective on driver safety!

Nikki Lauda, what a big girl's blouse.

Jackie Stewart, pansy. Pfft.

It made me cringe watching Massa at Monaco, Lewis was out of place, trying desperately to get by, and the standard of defensive driving by Massa (and Maldonado) was terrible.. Lewis was all over the back of Massa, and he just drove his normal line, leaving a gaping door open, Lewis was bound to try sticking his car there IMO.. Obviously I prefer the close racing of BTCC, where you have to defend well and if a driver has even 50% overlap, they give them room..

I think the FIA and there penalties for what are mainly racing incidents is not promoting 'racing'.. it seems to be trying to encourage drivers just hotlapping, only to be overtaken if there is a large tyre wear differential, or DRS, but the defending driver need only drive the 1 racing line.. I know it's not quite that bad, but you can see it going that way.. Hell, even the tiniest misjudgement on a slow corner the other weekend was laughable as a penalty, you have 1 driver who looks to deliberately trying to hold up the other attacking driver, the slightest contact ensues and it's a penalty..

All of this doesn't promote close racing, it's making it more reliant on DRS and tyre grip differentials, which is really unspectacular to me..

There was a great comparison between Hamiltons successful overtake of MSc at Monaco compared to the less successful one on Maldonado.

Lewis' move was identical, the only difference was Schumacher left enough room, Maldonado didn't. In Maldonado's defence, he may have simply not seen him.

However, that didn't stop the commentary team (and therefore every other fool on the internet unable to form their own opinion) saying the Schumacher move was 'brilliant', while the Maldonado move 'definitely deserved a penalty'.

With reactions like that, what chance does Lewis have?

Lets face it the F1 rulemakers won't be happy until the 'DRS zone' becomes the 'overtaking zone' and everywhere else on the track you just have to follow others around.

I don't know why we don't just go back to the days of any retirement being an unpunished accident, that way drivers will stop using their cars as mobile walls when someone comes up behind them to overtake.
