What sort of distance can you get on that? and then you have the camera as well. All adds up.

Distance depends on radio gear and extended antenna's/power, iv seen people flying up around 2km with standard antenna's, my Naza Flight Controller you can limit your altitude to anywhere up to 2000m, or 2000 radius. Or I believe you can unlock them.

However I have seen people flying over 5km on youtube videos, all depends on any tweaks you do I guess

I would say the models in the OP are expensive, and "toy" looking.

I don't know that 2km range with the fpv would be awesome. This guy at work said he is on the waiting list for the bebop.

I just think imagine what this tech will look like in 30 years. great time to be a kid, i played in a gutter when i was kid, literally, in a gutter at the side of street.

2-5km, depending on your antenna, radio gear, and you can upgrade the radio gear in the FPV kit.


Not bad that RC has come to the point where you could potentially fly to a neighbouring village/town, and fly from a screen/goggles :cool:

I meant the one he linked was overly expensive :p

Some of them which can be upgraded and camera's added etc look pretty decent and probably are a lot better :)

If I had spare money lying around I may get one, but it wouldn't ever be a top priority, to many "oo oo I want that!" :(

How do you fly them then because that could apply anywhere outdoors, can they only be used legally at model aircraft flying clubs etc.?

The aircraft must not be flown:

over or within 150 metres of any congested area
over or within 150 metres of an organised open-air assembly of more than 1,000 persons;
within 50 metres of any vessel, vehicle or structure which is not under the control of the person in charge of the aircraft
within 50 metres of any person except during take-off or landing, the aircraft must not be flown within 30 metres of any person except for the person in charge of the aircraft.

Where is the Fun in that? I was thinking of adding in a remote controlled paint ball gun to the quadcopter. Then fly to the local high street and start having some fun. Other one was hanging a £20 note and watching people chase it.

I'd have thought if you can build a pc then building a drone is not any harder.

may as well just buy the parts and assemble your self and not pay these "alienware" drone prices

If the craft is carrying a camera, you can add:
  • At no more than 400ft
  • No more than 500m from the pilot
  • No flying in regulated air space, without permission from Air Traffic Control

A spotter is also mandatory to fly FPV, legally.

These aren't just "rules" or "guidelines", they're law.

There is stuff on the market, but it's considerably more costly. Theres a product called a phantom, made by a company called DJi. It's all ready to go out the box and is a little expensive for what it is, but can carry a gopro without losing too much in the way of maneuverability. I reckon you could get one to carry around 200g easily enough, but the heavier the weight the shorter the flight time will be.

The other option would be to build one yourself (not difficult) using parts you pick up online or from hobby shops. It'll be cheaper, but you have the scope to build a rig that can carry much heavier weights.
 
After what's going on in Paris, I'm wondering how long before one of these is used in a terrorist attack. Sure they won't get 72 virgins, but pretty sure they like living too
