Dropped CPU Temperature 15 °C going from top rad mount to front rad mount with RTX 3080

Explains a lot of issues you read about. I just followed EK's instructions for mounting, unsurprisingly no issues. Similar for the two Antec coolers I used to run.

Yup.

In a nutshell rad at the top pipes down is best for the cooler, although not thermally the most efficient (as your pulling warm air) so front mounted barbs down, if the pipes will reach and GPU etc allows is the best.

I personally mount at the top, I figure with good overall case airflow your only talking a few degrees, depends on your setup I guess if your case airflow isn't the best, you have a hot GPU and heavily dependent on keeping your CPU cool, so maybe the AIO you are using is only just to spec for your CPU/your heavily overclocking front mounted might be better.

The other reason I mount up top with a big 360 rad is it doubles as exhaust and personally think it's looks the best up there.

That's an incredible temperature reduction.
I had something similar before i bought my Lian Li case where I had top mounts, and reduced by 10 degrees or so by drawing in air from the back compartment (You can back mount on Lian Li). Not surprising.

As that's such a good gain, which thermal compound did you use out of interest?

Congrats on the multi-3080's :)

Can't watch, as at work.
But didn't that video say if you are mounting rad at the front, and hoses at top, they need to be higher than the pump? So any air gets trapped in the header of rad, rather than pump?
I'm sure I remember Steve saying about air getting trapped in the pump / block an d causing hot spots?

I've not had any issues with mine front mounted, barbs at the top.

Not surprised at a drop, my 3080 puts so much heat into case.

I've gone from 1080ti to 3080 Ultra. Both Evga.
The 3080 seems to put a lot more hot air into the case, and less out the back.

Not very scientific, but with the 1080ti, I could feel more hot air coming from the pcie slots it occupied.
With the 3080, I can feel more hot air coming from the exhaust fan at the back of the case.
Gaming my 3080 is sitting around 60-65. Low 70s benching.

Oh it was just some cheap DEEPCOOL G40 High Performance Thermal Compound.
Trying to sell the last RTX 3080 for a couple bucks more than I paid and grab AMD GPU in the coming weeks if it is better of course.

You don't have to prove it. If you have them, then you have them. However, I am sure you know there are hundreds, if not thousands, of members of this forum that are facing a very long wait for these cards. Its a bit insensitive to talk about having 3 of them, especially claiming it was easy, when for 99.99% of people it was impossible even if camping on multiple websites and refreshing every few seconds.
What on earth are you on about? You were wrong for insuating he was a liar and now you got that wrong you are trying to make up some other area where you can demonise him!

"Insensitive"! He was just stating what his experience was. If you want to get out the Kleenex to soak up your tears of upset and envy then by all means do so but don't start making out that he is being somehow inconsiderate for not taking your apparently extremely fragile disposition into account.

I agree 100%.

If I was wrong, I am sorry. You have to admit, its an unlikely story that he found three of them from different places when pretty much nobody else could. Forums often have users that make such claims just to get attention.

As for me, I am not upset or envious. I just happen to think it is wrong for anyone to be buying more than one of these cards at this time. Especially as he's just admitted to selling them for more than he paid. I am not going to assume he's scalping them, but it's not impossible.

If you want to check my post history you will see that I have been trying to calm down the tempers in the 3080 stock situation thread. I am happy to wait for mine, and I am not at all jealous if somebody had one before me. There are plenty of people there getting very worked up about the lack of stock (one of which recently is talking of suicide), and I stand by my statement that it is not nice to gloat about having 3 and it being easy to do so.

I always buy PC gear ,test it out and keep what I want. For RTX 3080 your saying I should only buy 1 of them and I can not sell something I bought. If I can get more than what I paid,i will do that all day long. The UK is not a communist regime and is supposed to be free. That mean you can buy anything at anytime. Dude you called me a liar then cheat and then insensitive about your feelings and now your saying what I can buy and sell. Please put me on ignore, your are not making any sense at all. There something not right here.

It seems to be you that is being sensitive. I did apologise for offending you.

Of course You can do what you want with your money, but there is such a thing as being considerate of others also. Much like panic buying and emptying shelves so others can't feed, is inconsiderate.

Not sure what the UK has to do with anything. I thought you said you were in Canada right?

Your whole disposition is off. "If I was wrong..." You were wrong, so your sentence should have read something like "I was wrong and I'm sorry." Full stop. Nothing else added. The fact that you went onto to try and accuse him of some new misdemeanour in your mind goes to show you had no remorse whatsoever.

I don't have to admit that his story was unlikely because I saw that he mentioned he was in Canada, which made it perfectly plausible to me. Also, what he does with his money in buying gpu's etc or then selling those components on for more if he can is not wrong just because you don't like it. Say you don't like it but to call it 'wrong' is just inane.

Besides, this thread is about the heat output by his 3080 and how the change in position of his rad affected his temps. You had decided to derail it because you felt some kind of affront because he said he had multiple 3080's; something ironically you were unable to get one of. You can disguise your post as some kind of righteous indignation, though a few others might see it as nothing but petty jealously, subconscious or otherwise.

I said "if I was wrong" because he has not provided 100% proof. He only posted 1 receipt so there is a possibility that it was not the truth. However, based on what he has posted since I do believe he purchased them. He does not need to provide more proof and I am not asking him to.

Everyone has their own moral compass which is their guide to what they believe is right and wrong. Just because mine disagrees with yours and Gerald's does not make it any less valid. This is not a situation like killing someone where almost everybody would be in agreement. It is not just a case of me not liking it, it is a case of me believing it is wrong. You are both free to disagree.

I am sorry if you believe I am jealous. I am not. I just have very strong views on certain things.

However, I will admit that I have derailed this thread and I apologise. Gérard was trying to do a good thing in passing on his learnt knowledge and I commend him for that.

You might want to follow the mantra, "Some thoughts are best left unsaid".

You insinuated somebody was a liar without any proof; the only person doing anything really wrong in this thread is you. That "moral compass" of yours you mentioned needs some serious re-alignment.

He might have meant the type of compass used to draw circles, the type you can give wee jabs to people with.
