Drving with lights on?!?

Can I add misaligned lights pointing up into the air/anywhere other than where they are supposed to point? Is this just everybody ramming walls when they park? How do they get so cocked up?

You would be shocked at how many garages don't know how to fit/align headlamps :(

I hate the aftermarket xenon crew who feel the need to show off their crappy eBay tripe which blinds oncoming traffic regardless of the time of day or conditions.

I don't bother with the automatic lights function any more. It's far too sensitive and has the lights turned on most of the time the sun disappears behind the clouds.

There's just something about lights on during the day that distracts me. Your gaze is always distracted towards them and away from the road.

I only have mine on in heavy rain and low light

I drive with the lights on when in my HGV, rarely in the car (during the day!) with the truck its a matter of making sure I do everything I can to help people see my truck.

Despite this, I often seem invisible.

I have my lights on during the day due to the fact other road users can see me better. I swear the next person that flashes me or tells me "your lights on are on" i will murder. I do it for a reason, not for a LOL. There is a reason why motorbikes have to have their lights on all the time, why it is necessary in some countries to have your lights on all the time and why there are some campaigns to make people drive with lights on all the time - it's because it makes you easier to see.

Instead of complaining about people that have their lights on at 1pm, i'd set about complaining about having idiots at 7-8pm at night on sidelights/no lights at all that are barely visible.

I hate this as well - its more distracting regardless of whether its xenons or standard halogens

Are you really distracted that easily?!

I have had pedestrians trying to signal me to tell me my lights are on when I am driving a car with daytime running lights, they must think I am an ignorant ****** for not taking any notice of them and not turning them off.

Why oh why do people insist on driving during the day with their lights on?

Unless you are in a Volvo, I can see no reason why people drive with their lights, on Friday at 1pm I saw some ditzy bird in a 57 plate Touareg with her lights on, followed by a fool in a 08 plate C class with his lights on.

I just don't understand

Had to get this off my chest.

Because they think cops will fine them or something most likely...

i have my lights on all the time, and always have done even when i had a pov spec mondeo with yellow halogens. I actually personally think it should be the law like in a lot of countries to have at least sidelights on all the time!

Lights on for example differentiates that car coming towards you slowly in the distance from the parked cars infront and behind it etc, it just seems silly to NOT have them on imo! Maybe it's because I grew up in a country where they all had daylight running lights.

I don't understand how they can be distracting though, think about it, if they're dazzling during the day what the hell do they do to you at night when there's no ambient light about....now i know some headlights can be bright, but they are somewhat outclassed by that little thing called daylight.....

Also on a more personal note, especially on bright days if im wearing sunglasses or the sun is infront of me, the dash being illuminated makes it easier to see how many children per hour im killing ;)

I noticed this on a recent trip to Canada, I was given the explanation that most vehicles out there manufactured after a certain year are fitted with automatic headlights. I've heard talk of the same thing coming over here possibly.
Annoying none the less. Perhaps on a par with that moron who always drives in front of me with his fog-lights on.

Nearly all modern cars with xenons come with DRL(daytime running lights) as standard which can be turned on or off. I read somewhere that in the next three years or so all cars will come with these and the law will change to say if fitted they should be used. Its all based on some EU study or something that proved cars are more visable and have less accidents if they have lights on during the day.

Both the drls on our Audi and the BMW are not the xenon dipped beam though they are sidelights(angel eyes on the BMW). And the UK spec for DRLs is that the front lights only need to be on which looked a bit stupid on the Audi.

People get glare and distraction from a 55w bulb, in daylight?

We have some sensitive souls on this forum :D

I ride with my lights on, on my bike - it helps to be seen.

Furthermore on a motorway during the day, when the sun's behind you and relatively low, I want as much chance to be seen as possible and switch them on then, even in the car.

I don't see anything wrong with dipped beams on during the day.
