DS to a DSi worth it?

One thing i have just noticed is that i can hot swap games now!

IIRC on the DS Lite it would crash if you ejected a game and put a new one in if the device was on.

Aye and you can go back to the main menu by pressing the off switch briefly :D, it's just little features like this that you may not notice but make it a better experience. No more switching the DS off to get out of something.

ok...I borrowed a japanese dsi for the last 2 days and wasn't considering the dsi at all as have a ds lite but got the chance to try it.

I didn't even ask to try it - an electrician doing some work brought it round without me asking and said I could try it out . Thought 'why not'.

The whole case is better quality imo...the buttons are a bit softer.

The screen even though is the same res adds more to the experience being slightly bigger -. A big boon for me is if I'm outside you don't have the darkness of the ds lite screen at max in sunlight . The brightness is good in sunlight :D

Everything about the dsi is an improvement on the older ds. Even the holder for the stylus . I used to get worn stylus's , the holder bit - they've made that a different material in the dsi .

Sound is clearer - get camera for future games , not sure if I'll play games with that.

The whole experience imo of the dsi is of a much better made unit - I don't know if the unit has a slightly faster cpu but games are that bit nippier...EDIT: just looked yep cpu is twice as fast.

I liked it that much I've got one on Monday for my birthday.

Yeah, the CPU is twice as fast and there's more RAM (16MB over the 4MB on the DS). At some point there'll be games which can only be played on the DSi, I imagine. I probably won't swap until that happens, though.

I wasn't aware of that. I know they're planning that kind of "hidden" upgrade with the Wii2 but had no idea the DSi actually had different specs.

Also quick headsup, if you link your club nintendo account to the DSi ware store you get 1000 points free. I'm keeping my points until something decent comes out.

and apparently Reggie has said they'll only be letting worthwhile games/apps hit the DSi marketplace.

i dont think you need to link anything, my points were there when i connected it online, i dont have a club nintendo account

I picked up a DSi and so far am quite liking it. I think the camera and the sound manipulation is a bit of a gimmick, but when some games come out that make good use of the camera then the table will no doubt turn!

That's all they're really, It's not meant to be a DSLR or a mixing desk it's just a bit of fun like in the above review says. I quite like the photo manipulation, I'm using it more than playing on the games themselves :D.

I misread this thread the first time around. DS->DSi is worth it, DSLite->DSi is not.

I still think it's a worthy upgrade. Especially with the better specs and software that is in place. It's very much like a Wii now with all the different channels.

Having recently seen an original DS firsthand and comparing it to my girlfriends' DSLite i would say its a certainly a worthy upgrade. Apparently the DSi has a slightly better screen than the Lite, but the Lite has a much better screen than the original DS.

So yeah, if you've got the money, do it.

I don't, but then I've never been a fan of all this pointless tat, I just want to play proper games.

I'm intrigued about the comments that the internal spec is (considerably) better, anybody got any links? This probably explains the ridiculous price of the machine. I'm still using a DS chubby, and I'm not interested in pirating games when they are on sale for £18 a month after release. Was planning to get a 'cheap' DS Lite but I don't want to miss out on potential DSi specific games (RE the better internal spec).

Aye, the screen certainly seems better. In fact I'm not getting a lot of Glare like I have with past handhelds when using it in bright environments, I guess it's got a new filter on the screens.

The speedier processor and more memory sound very interesting for the homebrew/emu scene...

Valve

No one uses their DS to emulate snes/nes games. It is terrible at doing that.

I'd only get a DSi if I didn't own a DS or have a silly amount of money burning in my pocket.
