Dubstep, I don't get it.

This.

I can never be bothered to get into debates about dubstep.

However, me and a mate run www.dubsilo.co.uk. Just re-done the design though, so a few links might be dead.

Does it really matter if what one person calls dubstep is or isn't dubstep? I'll put my hand up and say I don't know much about it beyond what I 'understand' to be dubstep (Skream, Caspa, Rusko, Benga etc) but does that really matter? I like what I like, be it dubstep or whatever other classification you want to give it.

Oh my gosh! Why do people think that drum and bass is dubstep, the 2nd post to this thread epically failed at showing dubstep.

I love dubstep, the dirtier the better. Gorestep, Drumstep [I know it is more DnB than Dubstep] and Pornstep mmmmmmmmmm.

i agree this thread is pretty horrible....ok so i have a few points to make:

1) since when has a single human being liked every genre of music out there? i have never known anyone to really appreciate every form, or even 'get it'
2) from my own experiences in music i went from pop (early teens) - rock/metal (late teens) - drum and base (early 20's to present) - small interest in dubstep (last few years), now im sure im not the only one here that has completely changed musical 'preference' as i have aged, this is not to say i dont listen to anything else bc i do hence preference.
3) i appreciate dubstep, admitadly i dont get a lot of it but i can see how it exists and why people like it. i love the kickdrum syncing that is at the 'core' of dubstep , burial i would say make some really interesting songs, more so then say someone like scream or benga (vastly overrated imo)

and thats all i have to say, but for people to simply dismiss one genre of music bc they dont get it is just all kinds of crazy! everyone has different tastes and connections to music afterall, and just bc you may not get it now doesnt mean you wont in 2, 3 heck maybe even in 5 years time.

The only genre I don't like is Dubstep, it just sounds like a mess, random sounds.

Someone please tell me the appeal of dubstep.

Yup that's what happened to the majority of dubstep nowadays. Check out some of the older stuff from a couple years ago, was a lot better. It was awesome on a set of really good club speakers (Funktion Ones)

p.s Borgore ruined dubstep

I've always like Skream and Ruskos old stuff. Not really kept up with the new Dubstep.

Thats what dubstep it to me. Stuff like that.

But when it does, it doesn't get much better than...

So bad it sounds like a joke. Whats that half way through, a guy revving a chainsaw? Seriously?

Dubstep, after listening to the tracks in this thread, seems to come in 2 flavours.

* Okish (about 5% of it)
* Nonsense (the rest of it)

Randomly spazzing out with a pitch bend wheel and a sampler filled with junky noises isn't listenable to me.

How can you not like this...

Gives me goosebumps...Mt Eden is a musical god in my eyes, if i'm ever over NZ i'll be seeking out a concert!

This kind of dubstep inspires, raises my mood and gives me a good buzz in the car on the way to work in the morning :D

I've always thought Still Alive was chiloout or downtempo breaks, nothing like the dubstep that most people are referring to when they mention it.

As a lover or pretty much all forms of dance music, I too don't get dubstep at all.

Digital in Newcastle still has them, not aware of any others in the UK? Going there for Heavyweight Dubstep tonight :D

Stealth in Nottingham has two rooms fitted with them, pretty awesome.

I've been out of the dubstep scene for quite a while now but here's a few tracks I like

This one is nothing like Chainsaw Calligraphy

This is one of my favourites
