Dump Valves

LOL don't ever turbo a Ford KA. Probably one of the stupidest ideas ever. The chassis wouldn't handle the power

Chassis is fine with the power, friend of mine put an RST lump in, tuned it up nicely and turned it into a real pocket rocket.

Shame a gypo van smashed into the side of him writing it off :(

ive always wonderd this, not because i wana do it, but because its a good way to make a smaller engine equal the power of the larger units, but burn less fuel (in cruise?)...

kinda how the current fiesta ST is a 2litre NA and the new one might well be a 1.6 turbo...?

Not without stiffening and making other weird and wonderful mods to it it wouldn't

Oh this thread is gonna be better than Maz's old threads..

Seriously PMSL over this.. I hit the floor I laughed that hard, turbo in a kak.. jesus.. what next?

Pass the popcorn pweese :D

I've heard the Ka is actually a pretty decent handling car.

Therefore, the chassis must be half decent. Not that I'm condoning it btw :D

I can only prey that he has ignorantly wandered into Motors with no idea on the driver demographic in here and isn’t just some troll getting off on our fuming. So to give some sensible advice the simple answer is don’t.

The engine is ancient; you can’t do anything with it bar an engine swap. With this in mind, a 1.3 endura Ka is so slow that even fitting better wheels, tyres and suspension isn’t going to make much difference. Even the Sport Ka is pretty slow. The fun point of a Ka is it’s designed to reach its limit quickly and that’s what makes it fun scrabbling round corners.

Your 17, stop dreaming. If an insurer hears the word engine modification and under 22 in the title you can kiss affordable insurance goodbye (that’s if you are going to declare it).

I doubt it would fool your mates anyway. I reckon if I was 17 and heard that, I’d think you were a prat. Mates will respect you simply for the fact your have a set of wheels to taxi them places, no need to look or sound the tit.

Explain?

Chassis is fine, being such a small car there is no chassis flex at all. Decent engine mounts were needed of course, but no chassis modifications.

The 1.3 Ka engine in the year car you have is an endura-e engine, which was designed in the 60s. It is prehistoric and completely powerless. This thread is like me asking about a turbo for my 1litre k11 micra with 59hp (same as the ka) engine, its rediculus:)

For those doubting about ford ka chassis strength, here's pics of my mates build:

Sleeper!

Sadly, here is where the story ends:

"The quickest accelarating car I have been in. Made mincemeat of my mates 2.0 Nova and I never really had to take it over 4k before changing gear.

So then I went and had a stage one chip added and it was even better! Thats where the story comes to an end. After picking up my chip, collecting a mate and driving to my house some guy in a Luton van, towing another luton van pulled into my lane and I had no a choice of under him or onto a grass verge and probably roll."

But, out of the ashes rose....

Sleeper no.2! Engine and ancilleries were undamaged, so transplanted into another ka.

He even managed to squeeze these under the ka's 15" wheels

i would understand putting all this effort into a fiesta maybe, because its marginly a nice looking car, but a KA? really, they are ugly, out of date, and girls cars.

thats what makes it so much fun, who expects a ka to be so fast

Surely that would be a nightmare with sorting a gearbox to mate with the flywheel & getting the bellhousing to fit and the custom engine mounts needed...

That and the busa engine has about as much torque as your average battery operated toothbrush. It'd still be quick but sadly I'd have to maim the person responsible for putting such a wonderful engine in a Ford Ka :p

i think some people are missing the point here. As the post above prooves, you cant write off the Ka as a performance car just because they dont make one. Nobody laughs at the Clio valvers etc... Just because the cars small doesnt mean you cant give it some power

you're all perfectly correct for laughing at the OP. Sticking a turbo and a dump valve on a Ka 1.3 is absolutely hilarious, the insurance bill for such a car at 17 would be even more hilarious. And the bill when the engine goes boom would be more hilarious still

As the post above prooves, if you want to improove the power on a smaller car, you change the engine for a more powerfull one from a car further up the range, eg a Fiesta/Escort RS Turbo unit. Then fit brake upgrades etc.. to match.

But doing this sort of conversion, isnt the sort of thing a 17 year old student is going to be doing, unless hes friendly with ocean finance ...

I believe someone turbo'd the 1.3 endura in the past, and got just shy of 100 BHP from it. As with many of these after market turbos, unless you spend a lot of money and change basically everything, you end up putting turbo's the size of coke caps on.

Pointless :)
