Dumped Car

Thanks for the responses so far. Admittedly there does seem to be little they can do whilst it is still taxed. They were hopeful that the police could at least check with the owner that he knows its there. If he is aware and has just parked it there, then obviously they can't do anything about it.

No. It's taxed, it can be parked anywhere as long as it doesn't cause an obstruction. What does it have to do with your girlfriend or her neighbours? I don't mean that question to sound confrontational, only literal - what's it got to do with them?

Sorry I should have mentioned in my original post. They live on the corner of two adjacent roads so have no parking outside of the house. There is a wide pavement that the council have marked for residential parking. However the space is really limited to 1 car per household, and with this other car dumped, it obviously causes an inconvenience to them.

I suspect most people would be at least mildly annoyed if the front of their home was used as free long term parking for people going abroad.

It might be legal but it doesn't stop it being annoying.

I expect predictable comments now about how everyone should buy gated houses 500m away from the nearest road if they don't want this to happen to them.

It's not abandoned, so no. You can't just 'have' legally parked, taxed and insured cars simply because they've been parked there a while!

I know that, but if it was SORN could you?

No. It's on the public highway and taxed. Just because it's on the road outside the OPs property doesn't convey any rights. The public highway is the public highway.

Sorry, I'm still not quite sure I get it. Is it in actual designated residents parking space or is it just on the road?

We have a 54 plate 535d that sits in our street for upto 3 weeks at a time, sometimes a lot longer.

The owner lives in Spain, owns a house around the corner, and parks it where he does due to there being a space available at the time he parks.

It's taxed, I assume insured, hardly a problem despite parking in our street at times being a real pain.

These things happen!

It is parked in designated residential parking, of which the owner is clearly not a resident.

I don't think that matters - that's more of an understanding among residents rather than a hard-set rule.

Were it blocking a driveway or access then I assume it could be legally moved.
