Only in talks at the moment but by god, if this were to happen would be my most anticipated movie for many years.

Now if only he gets to do it and has Deakens on board

..the filmmaker is now in official talks to helm a passion project he’s been keen to adapt for years – a new adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic science-fiction novel “Dune” for Legendary Entertainment.

It's confirmed :D

Brain Herbert, son of the late author Frank Herbert, has confirmed on Twitter that filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is officially signed up to helm the new feature adaptation of “Dune”.

Herbert describes it as a ‘Dune series film project’ which suggests multiple installments – understandable considering the size and complexity of the material.

Timothée Chalamet has been good in what I've seen him in, which to be honest is only 'Call me by your name' and 'Ladybird'

I wasn't really suggesting he's a bad actor, I think i've only seen him in Homeland years ago, he's just an unknown to me at the moment so I can't judge if he's a good or bad choice.

All the other names announced are well known and well liked personally.

Just stilgar, I find Havier a mess at best.
The bond rubbish, the counsellor, all that dross he's done. prefer someone else, frankly the guy from the miniseries was a good stilgar.

I can see where you're coming from actually, i'm imagining an overtly in your face camp Stilgar now.

Who played him in the mini series? I seem to remember it was Dalton era Felix Leiter in the Lynch movie.

A few years ago i'd have been all over this but right now with his saturated exposure, not so sure. Still a cracking actor with the right roles.

Josh Brolin is reportedly in talks to play Gurney Halleck, the warmaster for the Atreides family and a mentor-like character for the young lead Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” adaptation at Legendary Pictures.

He was in 1x movie in 2016, 1x in 2017 and 4x in 2018

Not exactly saturated is it?

Strangely it feels like he's been in a lot more recently. I guess as he was in two big ticket movies last year it skews perspective a little. Plus I watched Sicario 1 & 2 a few times in the last 12 months as well.

A bit perplexed by Skarsgard's comments here, surely Baron Harkonnen is more than a small role, granted i've not read the book and only seen the various Lynch versions and the mini-series.

It’s like The Avengers. It’s a delicious cast. I’ve just got the book and am going to read it now. I’m playing a small but important role. Most of all I wanted to work with Denis Villeneuve…I’m just there for the ride.

Confirmed as two movies:

That changed today as Legendary CEO Joshua Grode, speaking with THR today, confirms that his company is fully onboard with the two-film plan and seems intent on making the sequel:

“That’s the plan. There’s a backstory that was hinted at in some of the books [that we expanded]. Also, when you read the book there’s a logical place to stop the movie before the book is over.”

They better hope the first movie does well, or we can kiss part 2 goodbye.

Blade Runner 2049 was a box office disappointment, despite being great.

The article is basically saying they're committed to a second part regardless of how the first does.

BR2049 was a stunningly good movie, shame the BO performance wasn't great.

That was down to Ryan whatsischops imo, just not leading man material (yet?).

He almost put me off going to see it, despite loving DV's past movies and also the original Blade Runner being an all time favourite movie. However he really surprised me in the role and my dislike of him has softened since. I still hate him in Drive though and think it would be a far better movie with someone else in the role.
