Dune (2020) - Denis Villeneuve

I really enjoyed the film but it's really annoying that the second part isn't going to be out for a fairly long time as it means so many of the questions will not be answered.

Firmly at the feet of WB who moved the goalposts on DV. Initially promising him he could make both movies back to back, then changing this to 'you get part 2 if the first makes money'.

I feel as though for DV this could be the equivalent of Nolans Dark Knight free cheque with WB, after the success of TDK WB essentially gave Nolan free run to make anything he wanted.

But still seemed surprised when the bad guy said that she was dead. He was holding out for it. It was a convenient plot piece and agreed, it was a bit lazy and sloppy

This is definitely a sub-plot that was far better in Lynch's Dune, adequate time put to it without being obvious on an initial viewing. Dean Stockwell will always be my Yueh :D

The baron wants plausible deniability.
If a truthsayer asks him he can safely say I didn't kill anyone ... The film completely glossed this over. Vladimir is a genius tactician. That doesn't come across at all in the film.

I know you know that. I just quoted your post :p

Ha ha...how dare you assume what I know :D

I think they sort of address it in the ornithopter when they're taking Paul and Jessica, just not directly around the Baron.

Corridor crew did a VFX comparison of 84 vs new Dune and one thing that shocked me was that the shields in the old one are hand drawn and took 9 months just for the Paul/Gurney fight at the beginning.

lol it looks like someone with a semi transparent robot costume made from cardboard boxes though

No disagreement but for the time, even as a kid watching it over and over early 90's - it looked kinda cool :D

Just amazed at the time spent on it, it's staggering. Also the effort for the atreides landing at Arakeen, Lynch really had a lot of passion for that movie.

Christopher Walken cast as Emporer Shaddam, not sure how I feel about this.

He's an all time great actor and i'm sure it will work out ok, just doesn't feel right at the moment.

Kyle Maclachlan did an AMA on reddit last night and it's worth 5 minutes of reading through for sure - some amusing and succinct answers.
