Dune: Awakening

Had a few hours last night and enjoying it. Enemies and Worms are far more switched on and dangerous since last I played. Enjoying it a lot although I'm still not sure how long endgame stuff will keep my attention.

Did manage to lose my bike underneath the world though, doubly annoying since I was up in Hagga Rift and miles away from a base. I tried to spawn the bike, while moving, right on the side of a mountain and it glitched and disappeared. I assume it fell through the world.

Survival isn't that challenging I find and by the time you get a Dew Reaper (to harvest water from the bushes) your probably running a couple blood purifiers in your base. Water is far less of a concern by carrying a couple water bottles. Two or three (size dependant) blood bags and I've only had water problems when I've been away from base for a long time.

I'm just having to wait to play as my Private server has issues, or rather Gportal are having issue due to various reasons and registering Worlds with Funcom.
Didn't help that I couldn't connect to some worlds very well either, I spent about 3 hours last night trying to connect :D

How would those playing describe this? Is it part RPG part survival or does it lean into one more heavily?

It's sort of RPG meets survival meets MMO, I had 400 hours in the closed beta helping test and find bugs and now going to have a silly amount in the full game :D

Hard to get good photos because of how much the lighting and shadows impact visuals but the visuals with rtx hdr on qd-oled, lovely!

Nvidia Ansel should be making a comeback as it was enabled during the closed beta, It's how I got shots like these -

Our Gportal private servers is ****** so we now playing in a pub server..

Gportal have messed us up big time. I am restarting again for the 3rd time….

GPortal aren’t shady, they’ve been fine for the other servers I’ve rented from them, they’re just hamstrung with this one a little and I’m hoping Funcom are helping them resolve the issues.

It’s quite rare now for multiplayer PvP games to offer self-rental servers due to the ability to dissect server files to enable cheating/develop cheats, especially in larger titles.

They’re adding time to everyone’s rentals but it’s annoying having to wait though.

No issues for me in headstart. Built my third base up in west vermillius just a stones throw away from aluminium and duralanium

Open beta did nothing for me, i gave it 12 hours but combat is pretty poor there is F2P games in this genre with better combat.
That doent mean its not a good game, but for me i found it pretty boring and suspect even if it does improve as one progresses further i can tell it will get repetitive very quickly.

About 20hrs in and having a great time so far. Only just got to the second area.

Run's great at 4k. Looks marvellous.

It's an immersive Dune/similar style open world experience with the typical activities you get with those types of games. Visiting POI's, gathering resources, shooting/stabbing mobs, that kind of Ubisoft thing. I'm not a big fan of base building in general but it seems cool with loads of options. It has the typical tiered resource levels for improving all of your building and crafting. Rare drop recipes and loot from chests etc.

PvE Combat is OK. It being a PvP game as well generally has an impact on the PvE experience a bit like New World. I was hoping the Mentat and Bene skill tree's would be fleshed out a lot more with more options but I think that was my fault as I was maybe expecting more RPG in the class system.

Enjoying the story side of things, especially the factions quests. Currently going with Harkonnen. Between the main journey/quests, factions and task board quests there seems to be a lot of content here alone.

Some of the survival stuff can be annoying. Not hard, I just spend too much time looking at my water. It gets better as you progress (as you would expect), but not a big fan of the speed of loss in general.

Playing as primarily a PvE, immersive experience I think I'll get 100hrs+ but MMO long-term probably not as I have minimal interest in PvP nowadays.

The game has had too much down time so far.

I love the Dune universe, its fantastic, I wanna pick this up but not sure about the whole gameplay, looks like big guilds will rule, PvP is a bit rocket heavy.... not too sure about it.

Gutted. Got the part moving to the second area. Packed up my bike with extra Storage. Put all the rarer mats in my inventory and on the bike. Crammed everything worth taking. Jumped on the bike, pressed forward... and the Game crashed. Reloaded as quick as I could but was stood naked in the middle of the desert . Everything gone. (Thought you respawned in your base?)

Had to spend awhile getting mats to rebuild a bike and stillsuit and weapons and everything wouldn't have minded if it was my fault.
