Dune: Part 2 (2024)

Just got back - I'd rate 6/10 (5 being average)
Good points - the CGI and live action work well togther.
I would say that the section where Paul leads the freman attacks misses making the point the time flows on, the fustration of the Baron and Rabbit wasn't that visible.. and there sweet FA chemistry between Paul and Channi.
The benegerit witches, harkonnen and firemen religion was handled better this movie. I think this was the star of the show.
I was expecting Mr Walken to start a dialogue how his blade has been up his behind during the wars etc. However he was surprisingly good as the emperor.

Just need the next movie.. 3 hours...

Just back from the Cinema as well. I thoroughly enjoyed it, if you like the first then this is a continuation of the same. Coming from someone who has never read the books nor know anything about the original movies or story, it gave me goosebumps on certain parts and it brought you down to earth in others. The pacing was a little off but my attention was focused throughout the 3 hours and it flew by. The cast gave a solid performance with some really heroic moments. Bring on the 3rd i cant wait.

8/10 for me.

9/10 for me, loved it but had been reading Herbert books since I was a teenager.

Disagree with shortening it, the time flew by IMHO. For those who disliked the first but went along anyway, thank you for your patrionage..

Just to add, I hope they don't do a third which has been rumoured. It ended at a good spot.

Just finished part 2. Definitely an 8.5-9/10 film for me!
Slightly better than part 1.

High praise considering I didn't understand part 1 till yesterday and never seen the 80s version.

Cannot wait to watch it again in a couple of months!

As a big Dune fan, having read the books several times, I think that I'm going to enjoy the film when I see it. Any Dune stuff is appreciated, and I can fill any missing movie omissions with stuff from my memory.

Same here, never knew about dune until I watched the new movie, thought it was excellent. What would you rate part 1?

Curious what didn't you understand about 1?

Hmmm.......not quite up to the expectations TBH.

It's impressive, but somewhat lacking in tangible feeling and expression, with a first hour that is extremely ponderous with only it's observations around religious mania and messianic machinations giving any sense of progression. Very surprised at that given the effort put into the first part putting its chess-pieces into place, but Villeneuve does have a tendency to 'over-egg' leading to a flabby midsection (BR2049) not to mention one of my, admittedly unfair, feelings about the first part - it was always a film that felt either 20+mins too long or two hours too short for me.

I guess it's one of the disappointments with this, in that, at the time, I didn't think the first film could be properly judged without the whole picture, and unfortunately, it didn't improve the first film as I would have liked. Not too mention, that we have to go to the well again for the continuation of the story.

Good points....the Bene Gesserit stuff, even Pugh was a little surprise (though the accent was a weird choice....too American), along with the subsequent religious-mania angle (include Ferguson in this), Feyd wasn't bad either with a striking introduction, technicalities of production are again first rate. Less impressive....still not feeling those two leads, final battle scenes surprisingly weak post the inital salvo, rushed towards the end after dragging its feet, problematic opening hour or so

Certainly preferred the first part, especially after only rewatching the previous night, so I'd stick a 6/10 on this for the time being. Has it's moments, more than a few, but baulks under its weight a bit too much. There's a better film in there, no doubt about it, so it'd be interesting to see it revisited but that's too much to hope for with a Part 3 to come.

Hard to say. It just didn't click with me. The sound was a bit overwhelming, bits of audio where you hear whispery voices were hard to understand, Paul's glimpses of the future a bit confusing, the lack of colour with only a single bit of green in the whole film, Baron was a bit confusing (did he have powers, could he fly?), All the random talking with nads was a bit off as well.

BUT....On second viewing at home none of this bothered me as I just clicked with the story and realised how awesome it is. I did pause a couple of times to re-hear the dialogue but apart from that the time flew by.

My complaints about the sound are the same for the sequel tbh, maybe it's just the cinema I watched it in, but even at home (for Dune 1) it seemed background volume was too loud over vocals at various times.

Just came back and it was good but not as good as I wanted it to be, some parts just felt rushed. I think I preferred part 1 more for some reason.

8/10 preferred part 1 - has to be seen in dual laser IMAX..

Only ever read the first half of the book but assume this finishes before the end of the book again?

Not really..... it's the same confrontational scenario
It hits "similar" story beats but the film takes it 1 step further forward if anything and so many characters motives are different its "same but different"
