Dunkirk (Summer 2017) directed by Christopher Nolan

The colour timing change is an unusual choice for Nolan. I thought the previous colour timing used in the first trailer looked fine - so I'm not sure why he has decided to change it. That's my only criticism. On the whole, I think it looks like it could shape up to be a very promising film, and it's nice to have a film about the British.

It looks incredible to me. Exactly what I was hoping for. Truly epic scale and just comes across like it'll be a proper depiction of the battle. Not some half ass attempt. Nolan is going all out. Just hope it's realistic in terms of combat and we get some ground based gun battles against SS etc. Not sure though looks like could be more air and naval based.

The new trailer still leaves me cold... It still feels more like 'made for TV' than the big screen. There are some good scenes, and some real talent in front of the camera, but it lacks the sense of epic it needs; it just feels flat to me.. :(

I think it really has a sense of the quiet and the foreboding. The calm and loneliness mixed with the impending terror. I think it looks very measured indeed.

Indeed Nolan has said this time around he won't be filling it with talking just because it requires it, which should make for some interesting viewing. I'm thinking Legion when they cut the certain sounds or sound full stop for some scenes.

I do love the guy saying there's no escaping this son.
I'll be going to see this with a bunch of swedes and I expect a large questions session after, so I better brush up on my ww2 history

i always thought nolan was a very unemotional director - sure his films look good and are well directed and acted, but there is something missing from them all: feeling.

He directed Interstellar... full of feeling that film

You think? I always found it's attempts at 'heart' to be purely ornate, as though you'd described how stuff feels to an Android and they'd put it on screen. He either completely under or over sells. There is very little subtlety to the way he presents emotion to you.

I think he's a superb Director btw, not knocking his general ability at all.

Both Interstellar and Inception have had me in tears in certain parts throughout, however this is heavily influenced by Zimmers amazing scores for both movies.

I also agree Nolan doesn't understand human emotion or how to convey it well at all.

While I am fortunate to have never experienced it, I suspect the actual reality of war was not epic at all....

Can't wait for this. My Grandad was in the British army and was evacuated from Dunkirk. Unfortunately he passed away 3 years ago...I bet he'd have been trilled to see this, as he always loved talking about his wartime experiences.
