Well, that's an unexpected result in FP1. I doubt we'll see the same order come Saturday but Mercedes looking much better here.

Always seems to be the same though. 'We're finally understanding the car' .. then qualifying hits and Hamilton on the radio saying 'a second behind?!'

I fully expect Max will be top, but it does make me wonder, how much duller would this year be if someone better than Perez was in that car? We could easily be seeing 1998 McLaren type scenes with Hakkinen and DC 1-2 most of the time, or Senna/Prost from '88

Or for a more recent example Hamilton/Rosberg 2014-2016 :)

It is a circuit that suits the Mercedes and if the track temps are high enough they can do better than last week where Belgium played to RB's strengths...

Missed it, what were they blithering on about this time?
They went to Ted who said he had some info about something or other but that he wouldn't say it and that they should go to a break. Crofty said something along the lines of "are you our producer now?" to which Ted then clammed up and wouldn't reveal what he was talking about. It was painful.

Drive to Survive have a new rivalry

Stefano is actually pretty good in the commentary box. He'd be great doing a practice session or something.

He really shot that question down about any new teams joining though. Shame he seems so against it.

Mercedes are competitive here, but not in Belgium....

I really don't understand the operating window of that car. Sadly, I suspect that Mercedes really don't either.

Pretty incredible to see Verstappen go from the total domination of last weekend to the apparent weakness of this. Free practice is free practice and all that, but it's not often that you see a car that isn't able to reach the front in any session step up in Quali - certainly since "party mode" got banned.

The tracks are about as polar opposite as you can get.

Spa, low downforce, high average speed, lots of medium/fast turns, smooth surface.

Zandvoort, high downforce, low average speed, lots of slow corners, bumpy surface.
