The only thing Red Bull are guilty of is making a car so focused to one driver that an average (for f1) driver has a difficult time with it so ends up binning it because the rear end is way too loose for them

they haven't made a car focused on one driver they've made the fastest car they can. Max has even said himself the car last year didn't suit him. He doesn't like a lose rear end. This car isn't much different in that regard.

Ricciardo is clearly a great personality, but he's more suited to TV work than being in a race seat. Distinctly average (or worse) driver, and we need to stop feeling sorry for the situation.
Get him out of the race seats, and into the Sky F1 chair.

You don't get 8 race wins by being "distinctly average". You don't rock up into the team of a driver who has just won four consecutive WDCs and the last 9 races straight, and whip them by being "distinctly average". You don't beat Max Verstappen in the same car over a season by being "distinctly average".

Dani Ric earned his reputation on track. He has failed miserably at McLaren but that doesn't mean he has no talent. He's already proved that he does.

And his regular good performances at Renault prior to his move. That car did not deserve to be on the podium.
The current McLaren is also pretty garbage, especially in terms of consistency. Even Lando, who has a much better understanding of how the car works, said that it’s pretty bad this year.

Ricciardo is the modern day Barrichello maybe?
He was good, but aside from a glimmer of hope last year it's been a year and a half of lackluster performances.

Tying up a race seat because of performances years ago doesn't seem like a smart move. Unless he's bringing money to the team.

Edit: I'm talking about him like he isn't fit to drive a delivery van, but obviously I'm meaning in the tier of driving he's at. A world class driver for sure but there are others who deserve a shot, and past glory but a complete lack of results in the here-and-now don't do anything for the current WCC position.

Lol at those thinking he's done. He simply just can't adapt to that car, which does show the limitation of his skillset but hardly that he's done. Stick him in a RB or a Ferrari and I'm sure you'd have a different opinion.

We see it all the time in sports players having a terrible season or two then rising back to the top with a change of team, coach etc..

He said it was bad last year too. It reminds me of the 2009 Ferrari.

On the Ricciardo topic, it was only a couple of seasons ago that he finished 5th in the Renault, it's not like we're discussing someone who last did anything noteworthy in 2013 or something.

He outscored Vettel immediately off the back of his 4 titles. He outscored Verstappen in 2016, 2017 and quite possibly would have done in 2018 too if it weren't for some garbage reliability problems, he started that season very strongly. Then moving to Renault, having one average season before delivering a 5th place drivers finish in a competitive midfield.

Following all that, for me, a bad season or two in a car that doesn't suit him is absolutely nowhere near a good enough reason to write him off as 'done' or as 'distinctly average or worse', following an otherwise generally impressive career.
