DX11 only a short term advantage says NVIDIA

To honest these 5850/5870's are enough to keep most going for at least another 2years. I cannot see the benefits of better cards just yet as games developers are still not catching up with the technologies.

I remember people saying that not long before Crysis came out...

True and early next year Aliens Vs Predator 3 is coming out which uses DX11 and given what we've seen from Dirt 2 and how DX11 effects performance were going to need all the horse power we can get to run a FPS like AvP 3.

The problem is you will never have enough power for long, as soon as a load of people have a good fast card game makers reduce the effort going into optimization of the code to some degree.
They could spend years improving the code and by then games out of date and everyone has the faster cards anyway.

That's my theory anyway.

60 day lag? I think they mean up to 150 day, if reports are correct.

And what normal user cares about direct computing?

The 5850 should have been £150 to £180 at launch the greedy b******* have been putting the price up steadily, because they can. Ocuk are one of the worse but another well known etailor currently have 5850 in stock at £274.99. I repeat, greedy b*******.

Maybe also the strength of the pound?

to be fair to Nvidia quite a lot of the delay have been due to tsmc, just in the same way that Ati have had production issues due to tsmc. of course thats no tot say that Nvidia havnt had problems but tsmc certainly havnt helped.

To be fair Nvidia have squandered almost a three year head start, the TSMC delays will have made no difference for the pre-production chips.
