E2160 vs E4500

I think my e4500 may have topped out at ~3200Mhz, which is a tad disappointing, as I was hoping for 100Mhz more. Temps during a 10 hour+ Orthos run hit a peak at 58 degrees, according to Realtemp, but mainly hovered around 55 degrees or so. I may try one or two more bumps up on the CPU voltage to see if I can get 3300Mhz, but 1.465V is already quite high.

I have to say, the CPU VTT and GTU ref settings are a bit confusing, does anyone have any tips regarding these? Most of the info on the web is rather vague...

Anyway, the step up from the set up in my sig has yielded an extra 1300 3dmarks or so.

Did you try lowering the multiplier?

Wow that's a good speed, what mobo is the CPU running on? I have tried lower multipliers, but I'm not sure if my CPU likes high FSB speeds or not. This is my first ever Intel set-up, after having a succession of highly overclocked AMD computers, so I'm still finding my way with things.

I have left my computer on at home running Orthos at 320x10 today to see if that's stable to try to build on things that way.

I'm running it on a standard Asus P5K (the one with the yellow PCB) nothing fancy but it is a solid board. I've just switched to this Intel setup after years of AMD too. Good luck. :)

managed to get my e2200 up to 3ghz (with 11x273 @ 1.4625v), just testing it now with 10x300 with orthos, but temps are getting very warm (its hot in my room today) at 64-60*c for both cores and the CPU temp is 69-70*c! Too hot?
Its under a tuniq tower, but I had some trouble fitting it, so it might not be 100% efficient (an MSI Neo2, Tuniq Tower, and lianli V1000+ is not a good combination - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17873737. Also the CPU is not flat - it dips in the middle
I will lap it if its really worth it, but i figure it will reduce the re-sale value and may not be really worth the trouble for a chip that isn't going to clock to super high speeds anyway.

320x10 is my max with this chip, I think. I am fairly satisfied with that speed, as it's a clear improvement over my AM2 set up at 3Ghz for not a huge cost outlay. Also managed to get my RAM at 1066Mhz, which is nice.
