E39 - Mega Miles....

thats hardly a serious test providing it has sufficient cooling and lubrication.

castrol ran an old 3 series beemer for a million miles or something daft but such controlled conditions is hardly realistic

its not as simple as sitting there at 6000rpm.

they do things like set the temp to -40c and +40c during the runs, also heavy loading the engine etc etc.

if engines fail it, its hardly "easy" is it? anyway OT.

I saw/read something a while ago that Ford tested the 2.5T engine used in the Focus ST and RS by leaving a few running 24/7 for months at something like 6krpm.

I wonder if most companies do something like this.

Yeah there is a video about that, its was 1mill miles or something like that.

The exhaust etc was glowing white and nothing broke at all.

Seems like a bullet proof engine, mayby why Noble have started using Volvo engines in their new motor.

I took a photo of a 170k 530i interior at the weekend and it looks mint! The passenger seat looks like new.

The Z4 parked next to it had 110,000 less miles and was nothing like the condition..

Look after a well built car and its mileage is limited only by the amount of money you are prepared to spend on it.

a decent number of miles! but on a motorway i would expect it tbh. It genrally the stop starting, adn genral age that course the most wearing. We ahve a couple of old mercs that still use my local dealer that are around 500k, fathers in well over 300k last time i looked, but thats on b roads, so suspention etc is sloppy.

Fox, your car is hella clean. There really can't be that many about in that kind of condition at all. IIRC you picked it up for a complete steal aswell?

Except thats the drivers seat with it being LHD. ;)

Click the other pictures and you can see what he meant, seriously you can be a bit dim at times :p

I bought it off its original owner when it was 4 years old for about 500 quid under trade price.

wow fox.. the dash looks dull as hell?! is there missing something? like a sat nav?

Yea, it doesnt have the BMW Widescreen monitor. I intend to retrofit that in the Summer.

Get a facelift M wheel too while you're at it ;)

I have to agree with gurdas in that it does look quite dull. I have to say i've never really been a fan of silver and black. Not the most inspired colour choice :p

Simply changing the ally inserts out completely transforms it, i feel that the ally completely spoils what is potentially to this day a decent interior. Would have been the first mod i'd have done to mine had i'd kept it, followed by the widescreen monitor and possibly wheel.

How do you keep it soooo clean? I valet mine on the inside and a few days later there are leaves and other bits of crap on the floor! As soon as I wash my car and clean the alloys a day later they are coated in brake dust again!

I'm ordering a brand new facelift M Sport wheel from BMW next week :) Unfortunately it takes a while to get here as its a factory order part from Germany :(

I'm seriously toying with the idea of moving to a wood interior. When I get 5 minutes I'm going to remove some of the wood trim from my Dads 530d and fit to mine to get some good before and after shots to help me decide.

Dunno really, I'm pretty fussy about cleaning but I only vacuum it once a fortnight or so on. I guess I'm just careful with what I put where etc.
