E39 - Mega Miles....

Should we gather from this thread that this kind of high mileage condition is specific to bmw/E39's, or simply well looked after cars in general?

Well looked after, and cars of a certain usage. My S-Class above for example, despite now having 145k on it, has spent its entire time on the motorway with only a driver and occasionally a single front passenger in it. So the number of entries and exits and "uses" of the car reflects a locally used car with half the mileage. Fox's 530i was the same, and now in his ownership is simply very well looked after.

Having seen Fox's E39 several times in person, I can say that it certainly is absolutely stunningly good when you consider it has 175k or so on it (that's right eh?) ...it'd in good condition for a car of 40k let alone nearer 200k. But yea, they hide the millage very well, although as Jez says, it does very much depend on how it is used also. E39's are very well made, everything (except the cooling system) is durable and built to last. If you really look after your car, an E39 can last a very long time indeed, I guess they aren't old enough yet for us to really know how long they can go when treated with care and properly maintained.

Lovely car Fox. I'm sure you'll have people lining up to take it off your hands when you get a new one. Something that does surprise me is in the third pic you posted, you have some gouges in the rim of the wheel in the foreground. You seem like the kind of person that it would bug the hell out of and would need to fix it. Other than that it looks like something you'd expect to see on the website of the BMW Doctor Person (I can't remember the web address now :().

It does bug me and always has (I bought the wheels like that). They are diamond cut polished wheels with no laquer, though, and refurbing these wheels is particularly difficult and only a few places in the country can do it and its quite expensive.

Therefore its had to wait until I finished Uni. They'll be done this Summer :)

How do you keep it soooo clean?

Not only does he keep that beemer showroom clean while driving through puddles with old salt and grit, but just how on earth do the Foxes keep their grass so green and foliage so crysis like in the middle of winter? Obscene.
/me walks away muttering about leading sheltered life and all that... :D

I took the exterior photos in September of last year.

It actually looks even better now as it's since had the entire front end resprayed :p

I wish someone came along and ****ed up my windscreen. I want a resprayed front end :(

It was bad before this winter, but the amount of stone chips is ridiculous.
I've noticed loads on the windscreen too, the idiots filled potholes on the motorway in with gravel, especially sliproads

I wonder if i can get my windscreen replaced on my insurance for free in the spring..

Fox, the grounds around your house I guess (I assume this since your garage seems to be in one picture) looks very nice, do you by chance live on a gated estate ?

It doesn’t quite look like somewhere that’s open to all.

Hehe thought so, my sister does too. Other than having lots of land in the middle of nowhere, tis the best way to keep the riff-raff out :D ...well the best 'legal' way anyway.
