E4300 vs E6300

Gah now I am really confused, I have an asrock dual Vsta on the way to me, was going to get a n E6300 conroe

I dont overclock, have no intention of starting, so what woudl be better "stock"

At least for a while i will be using DDR 1 memory and an AGP 6800.

Primarily I play a few games(nothing too heavy at the moment) and some photshopping.

At the moment I have a 2.8 nothwood and that copes fine with any game i have tried, so far that is.

If you are not overclocking then for the current small price difference get the E6300.

The only real advantage of the E4300 to myself (basing on my asrock board) is the fact I can get a much higher overclock from it.

However as you are not going to be overclocking (a tad daft considering how easy people have found the C2D's to clock) a E6300 is better for you.

People over clock c2d as they probably the best over clocking cpu released, as already stated why spend £300 on a cpu when you can get one for £110 and put the rest towards a nice gfx card or somet.

I think the important thing is missing most of us that over clock don't intend on keeping these chips for years, like me ill update my 6300 summer time or even flog it to me m8 and buy a 4300 with its higher multi so less stress overall.

OK, so as a tight Scotsman who can't bear paying £150 per component (CPU, RAM, motherboard), would a 4300 and an Asrock 775DUAL-VSTA combined with the DDR1 that I already have let me get decent overclocks until I get some DDR2?

Then once I've got the DDR2, then get a decent motherboard?

As long as the 9X multi on the 4300 can offeset the relatively slow memory speed with DDR1, and the resulting combo is faster than my current 2.6GHz Opty, this could be a £150 total purchase for me! Or are the OC'ing options on the 775DUAL-VSTA so bad that it doesn't matter what I do?

Sorry if my idea of OC'ing a C2D seems crap, I've been an AMD man for my last 5 processors.

I have been Intel myself for about 2 years, after I did a 3dmark on 3 pcs

I happened to have all 3 at my house at the same time, thought it was a great oportunity to test them

I used the same memmory and the same graphics card in all 3
the 3 tested were

intel 2800 (northwood)
amd athlon 2800
amd semperon 2800

graphics card was leadtech 6800le
1024 memmory (4 x 256 sticks)

i cant remember the exact numbers but
intel was highest
amd athlon had a bout 250 less score than the intel
amd semperon had about 350 less than the amd athlon

I ran the tests twice, to be sure

Any way

I have (when it arrives) a asrock vsta dual board
Also have a 6800 512meg pci G.card coming
will be using ddr1 memory (2 x 512 sticks)
and almost certainly E6300

So I dont think I would be able to overclock (because of the memmory) any way, even if I wanted to

yeah i did give as thought to a decent heatsink and fan solution. the arctic freezer pro seems to be a good choice from what I can tell. Many people seem to have it so must be good...

Getting a fan controller also so will be good to have two sources of temperature readings one being software related and the other hardware related. Will also allow me to adjust fan rpm which should be useful, I hope lol

This is the combo I've been thinking about. I've got some decent DDR ram and I'd like to think that I could save myself £150 and get another years use out of it. It'd have to go on at least a 3/4 divider to the most out of the CPU, but it'll still probably smoke my current opty.

I was AMD myself for the last 3 years too i believe! Couldnt beat them back then for price and performance but the C2D's are awesome processors, due to my Mobo limit il probably be moving from my e6300 to the e4300 for the ease of overclock and the fact my 2.1ghz on an e6300 will become 2.6ghz on an e4300

will do 3.5ghz but will only bench...chips limit :(
Hi vocch, that looks great but I am wondering is 3.4GHz bench stable or dual prime/orthos stable?

I have seen a few of your screen grabs but none show decent stability? (also whats your max temps pls?) :)

Hi Big.Wayne....if you look through my posts you'll find 3.5ghz is bench stable 3.4ghz is orthos....when i replied to you before i allready had posted a 4hr orthos and said i'd have to dig out the 8hr as wiped pc but you did not reply so there you go....Do i hear dissbelief....what your pc not playing ball...my pc has been orthos tested and is rock solid @ 3.4ghz and yes i have also magic Geil pc6400 that has done 1100mhz believe it or not but then again i don't just say things i do post proof....Oh and my temp is under 60 load :D

Hi vocch,
I only asked for some stability screens? I mean I could take your word for it but a picture paints a thousand words no?.

Try not to be so defensive m8, I'm sitting here with an e6300 mixed in with a 486Mhz-FSB but didn't managed to get it dual-prime/Orthos stable yet, runs benches and games fine though.

Any tips or things u found helpful? :)

Hi Big.Wayne....sorry to sound a bit harsh m8.....but i would'nt call a 4hr orthos an undecent screen grab....anyway have you tried upping chipset voltage? and how good is your cooling....when running orthos mine reached 65...although day to day use i have not seen it any higher than 58...my vcore is set @ 1.475 in bios and chipsets upped to 0.25...ram timings 5-5-5-15 with a fan strapped to them ;)

e4300 or an e6300? i will probably be overclocking
A e6300 will be faster at stock so thats the chip if your not overclocking.

Once you start overclocking its hard to say, the e4300 has some obvious advantages having a higher multiplier meaning u don't have to have a stella mobo that can reach 400-500MHz-FSB to get some good clocks out the cpu.

Did u read the Anandtech review?

Nor would I, where is it? :)
