E46 USB Audio

OMG

It works on my MID.

I can now tell what my coolant temp is, how much fuel I've used since my last service, when my next brake fluid change is due, acceleration and braking levels from the car, digital rpm, just... wow!

The niggle you are on about is an iPod problem - it puts itself into sleep if it isnt used for a certain period of time.

You don't need to unplug it, tho, simply press the centre button on the ipod.

I'm really decided on a 5th gen Ipod Video 60 or 80 gig (whichever is cheapest) but this hibernate malarkey sounds quite inconvenient going to the boot each time it's not registered on the HU :(

This site seems to give a good fix if anyone wants to test and report back? not sure if there has been a better solution since however

yes yes *strokes chin whilst gazing knowingly at the sky*

Or wire it up to the front glovebox. Means removing the boot lining, the rear seats, the drivers side plastic cover over the door sill thing, and the little glovebox itself. It's not particularly difficult, though, as long as you can get a long thin metal thing to push the cable through from the rear of the seat bulkhead down the car side panel. Assuming you're a coupe. Similar process for a four door I'm sure.

But if you never want to use the ipod for anything but car audio why bother doing that? Leave it in the boot?

Yeah, just to solve the "oh man I've just got in the car and the thing's turned itself off now I've got to get out and go into the boot to turn it back on again"... although just getting one that can disable the "sleep" thing is probably easier, admittedly...

It is still in production - they just run batches off every now and again.

It is now even more amazing that it ever was before - it now includes a vehicle information section which can tell you on the display your current coolant temp, current speed, current rpm, max coolant temp in journey, max speed in journey, max rpm in journey, how many litres of fuel used since last service, what the last service was and when the date of your next brake fluid service is due.

It's amazing.

Sounds pretty good, there's one on ebay at the moment with a KCA-420i for £250, seems steep for 2nd hand but guess they are sought after.

Those other features are a nice bonus too, to buy it now or wait and get a new one hmmm.

The problem is that the KCA-420i is out of production so you can only buy used ones. They are now rare and sought after and sadly the price goes up as a result. Mine is worth more second hand than I paid for it new

So £250 isn't that bad then? Is there anything else in the pipeline for ipod integration or is intravee the best solution for the foreseeable future? I think I need a A/D converter also as I have the DSP option.

Not really, Intravee has been around since 2003. It requires more knowledge to *not* know about it, it's limitations, etc

He's talking about all the CD changer stuff as well. Do try to hide your obvious attempts at sniping a bit better next time ;)

Sniping! LOL. Don't flatter yourself. I was just commenting that the information is easy enough to obtain about the CD Changer even on Intravee's website.

Indeed, I was one of the first few people to use an intravee (in the early test stages, my goodness it was buggy back then, but a lot cheaper too!) :)

It's not been around anywhere near that long, more like 2006 in small numbers before it started getting popular. (I'm talking about the current Intravee II)

How much did you pay for your Intravee out of interest? In what ways was it buggy?
