lol I wonder if there ever has been an unsuccessful launch as this

Unsuccessful!! Are you kidding...?

Intel has you all foaming at the mouth to get your hands on the Conroe. It’s a very clever marketing strategy. They have every single tech site talking and hyping this CPU up, you can't go to a site without reading a report or seeing a benchmark that is singing the praises of this new piece of kit.

Look at the hype generated on the lack of units delivered by Microsoft on the release of the 360. There were reports all over the internet and TV about how people were so frustrated, causing bidding wars on internet auctions sites etc... Its genius

We have something that is better than everything else.
We are going to release x amount on --/--/06
We are really going to release 1/4 of the x amount
We are going to receive x10 in publicity
Then will we will have a full scale release!!!

There will be so many Conroe’s by the middle of August people will be overrun with them!!

Im not meaning unsuccesful in those terms...forget the marketing.. Im meaning promising on a certain date and failing to match the date they set themselves

essentially from a customers perspective and not intels

tell me about it, we are premier providers for intel altho we use mainly server chips such as xeon etc and the intel rep cant get as a single conroe chip!!!!! the demand is huge for this chip in all flavours especially the lower end
i sometimes think its planned so they can generate more interest in the product but theres NO NEED!!!! we all know how good its going to be

And now E-tailers in the US can't ship any mid-range C2Ds until the AUGUST 7th

Confirms what Anandtech has been saying all along.

Despite pulling in the official launch date for Core 2 processor benchmarks, shipment dates for the CPUs haven't changed. According to Intel:

Intel Core 2 Extreme processor based systems and boxed product are expected to be available on the day of launch, 27 July. Intel Core 2 Duo processor based systems and boxed product are expected to be available from 7 August. Each OEM has their own product introduction / transition cycles based upon their target market segment and current product offerings. We expect some to offer product in August with more introductions extending through September. Check with the OEMs of your choice to get their specific message on system availability.

From what Intel is telling us, you shouldn't be able to so much as purchase Core 2 processors until after the first week in August, although you'll be able to get complete systems before then. At the same time, we're hearing that distributors already have some Core 2 parts in stock and will begin shipping very soon. While we tend to believe Intel's assessment of availability, we're hoping it's conservative.

Looks like second week of August for E6600s.

HI there

Well folks I can't believe this!!

I just spoke to our distributors who have just informed me that due to their warehouse been busy they won't be able to ship the product out tonight.

I really don't understand, these are one of the largest European disties who knew exactly what was happening this week and have not even brought in extra staff to try and cope with demand. :(

So after lots of shouting the best they can do is to get the shipment with us for Monday morning, they can't even manage a same day due to there been piles of other product in front of this to book in.

Intel's launched has been ruined, firstly by themselves and now by their distributors. Absolute shambles......

Thats gutting! Suppose it teaches all a lesson about being so keen. Last time I'll build a pc in this way.

Though that's just me being annoyed at AGAIN having to wait.

Got to say though, its pretty awesome being kept in the loop like this, so cheers Gibbo!

Notice how they placate people with a processor that makes less economic sense, ie. more expensive. As mentioned before, the E6600 is the one and I'm not buying anything else.

oh how fun ...
have the chips actually left the distributor yet ? it would be good to know that they are actually on there way somewhere. How far away from ocuk is this distributor ? i was just thinking if they weren't actually that far away you could have sent one of your own guys up there to pick them up. (same day delivery would have required them to send it out by a certain time this morning, if they were going out today anyway the overnight/ weekend stop with the carrier could have been short cutted)

Good work on actually securing some in the first place though

I bet Gibbo's a few more cancels away from going to Intel/Dell and giving them all a kick up the butt in person.

He's right though, they're just the average Joes that enough to earn their money and nothing more. They don't need to care about morals as long as they're doing their job description and nothing outside of it.

I'm just waiting for somebody who cares to actually get the ball rolling a bit faster, Gibbo can't do more than he's doing.

Come on E6600 :)

I'm still holding out for a sub £200 E6600 in the first week of Sept.

No chance of that surely, not with demand the way it is for the E6600. Truth is I don't want it to drop because I'm buying one as soon as their on the shelf. I refuse to pre-order.

The going rate seems to be £220 inc for delivery in the first half of Aug. I'm expecting a 10% fall in the first month making <£200inc in the first half of Sept. We'll see.
