EA Closing all BF2 servers?

Hi all

I have read that EA are closing all bf2 server. Was wondering if its possible to run private servers or not?

I have played only bf2 for the last 8 years and nothing else. Its the only game installed on my pc. I cant live without it to be honest and its so sad that EA are killing them. So much good memories from this game, tried bf4 and bf3 and they are both horrible.

I suppose everything has to end one day but why bf2 ::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I hope they allow private servers.
 
from what I have read, it would not be possible to setup private server, something to do with game spy. EA needs to patch bf2 to work with private servers, cant confirm any of this currently.
 
Gamespy is shutting down on the 31st May, so any servers/multiplayer browers that requires it will not function after this. However in theory direct IP connect should still work.

With EA being EA its highly unlikely they'll make a steamworks or whatever patch to circumvent this
 
Direct IP should still work and unless it was patched out a little known (at the time I played - might be more common knowledge today) thing was that offline with AI play was actually a listen server (don't think its connectable from the internet directly) - so you can still get MP games online going via something like hamachi worst case by mis-using the offline AI games - not sure what the player limits are though on that.
 
Last I heard they were at least looking at solutions for the BF2 Multiplayer to keep it running post Gamespy shutdown (which has nothing to do with EA)
 
we have to keep this game alive somehow, it would be a shame if it dies just like that. Some interesting suggestions here, will have to look into these.

The community will come up with a solution if EA doesn't bother to do anything. :)
 
I ******* hope not as I loaded BF2 onto my re built Desktop yesterday & spent hours having a brilliant laugh. Still 64 man Infantry only maps with 64 or very close it to players on them, I spent a few hours through the day & a few hours evening time all on 64 man maps that were full & kicking off just like the old days. :cool:

EA not supporting an old game is not a reason to buy another EA game...

Not EA's fault and tbh it's understandable to not do anything about it given the age of the game but it would be nice if they did.
 
I've been bashing the 64 man Infantry only servers All weekend & it's been great fun. :cool:
 
great to see people are still interested in this game. Its such an great game and so much good memories from this game. It would be sad for it to die like this.

so it would seem that there might be an unoffical patch comming if EA does nothing.

I am been playing karkand infantry only for the last 6-7 years. apart from far cry and oblivion have not really bothered with any other game on this pc.
