OK, I recently sold a graphics card, and I posted it out the day I recieved the payment. It is currently stuck in the RM strike backlog. I just recieved a message from the buyer asking me why I haven't left feedback for him, and saying I shouldn't be waiting for him to leave feedback first.

I know there are no rules, but I always thought the 'done thing' was buyer first? That's always been the way I've worked. Indeed, most ebay shops require the buyer to leave feedback first. I mean, what if he decided to blame me for a delay that was out of my control and leave me bad feedback, I wouldn't be leaving him positive feedback if he did that.

Tell me I'm in the right?

I always wait for the buyer to leave feedback first.

Are Royal Mail's Premium Services (recorded/special delivery) affected by the strike?

i always leave feedback when the package has been recieved by the buyer and they've confirmed they're happy. :)

always have done it, always will.... :)

Its the way I have worked too. Its best that the buyer gets and it verifys its ok before both parties leave feedback I think.

Welcome back iCraig :)

I always wait for the other person to leave feedback first.. If I'm the buyer I request feedback (If I've paid by immediate PayPal).

I've only ever bought stuff from ebay, never sold it, but I don't leave feedback until the seller leaves me some, as far as I'm concerned if I win an auction the feedback is basically concerning two things, speed of payment and communication,

I pay as soon as I can (usually paypal) and let them know when I receive the goods, I then expect them to leave feedback and I don't leave feedback till they do,

Seems i'm the one doing it 'wrong' though :p

The seller should leave feedback as soon as payment is made imo. If the buyer doesnt leave any then so-be-it. If the buyer posts poor feedback then that is what the "respond to feedback" function is for. As a seller I always leave feedback as soon as I have been paid.

Yup, buyer should always leave feedback first, unwritten rule :D

Do you not think it's a bit lame you get "revenge" negative feed-back? I have recently bought an item of there and the service and item was a joke. The bloke deserves nothing less than negative feed-back. I paid instantly but I just know he'll leave me negative feed-back if I do so for him. I'm a new user too so negative feedback is going to kill the account.

Very lame, I've been lucky so far I've negged a couple of people now and they didn't neg me back, was quite surprised. Although I did get told off by eBay for swearing at them :D

The last one was a zero feedback whose address and telephone number was a Starbucks in London, oh the hilarity :(

Buyer first, because if there is a problem and they act like an idiot then they don't deserve positive feedback no matter how quickly they pay. I don't view the transaction as completed till the buyer says they are happy with everything.

If selling I always post feedback as soon as payment is cleared, (usually by paypal so very quickly after the auction ends. I always keep the buyer fully informed of where the package is and when they should be recieving it, and always get positive feedback about great communication and well packaged goods.

However if buying I wait untill I have recieved the goods.
I guess that is slightly contradictory, but it works for me I have a feedback score of 887 and 100% so either it works, or I have been very lucky.

My thoughts exactly.

Haha that's really lame.

If you was in my shoes and he left negative feed-back, what would you do? I'm thinking of just making a new ebay account and assigning my current paypal account to it. Is that possible?

Always the buyer first as already mentioned.

The worst sellers though are the ones who are in the wrong and refuse to admit it, then decide to LEAVE FEEDBACK IN ALL CAPITALS!

If he hasn't left you any feedback then don't leave him any either, like a mexican standoff..........for nerds :D (I've done the same in the past, when I actually cared). Once you get an established feedback its less of a worry.

If he does neg you then of course neg the bitch. Try to make it funny too, makes for good reading for others :D I wouldn't bother making a new account but it depends what feedback you've got and what you use eBay for.

In my opinion the seller should leave feedback once the buyer has done his job. Paid for the goods.

If you are simply wanting the buyer to leave first so as the seller you can retaliate to negative feedback then I reckon that goes against what the feedback system is all about.

As a regular seller I always leave feedback as soon as the person has paid. If you do your job right as the seller you will have little problem. In 4 years (and over 2500 transactions) I have had one unfair negative feedback and I discussed it with the buyer who thereafter retracted the feedback.

I always wait for the buyer to leave feedback first, I see this as a way of knowing that the item has arrived undamaged etc as most people do no bother to actually contact you unless there is a problem. As a buyer I leave feedback as soon as the item arrives and I have established that it is as described and hasn't been damaged in post etc.
