Hey I need some help regarding a phone I sold on ebay..

I sold the phone on the first of this month. The buyer left good feedback. But now, he says the manufacturer has installed a virus on the phone, and the GPS is weak. And wants a return label.

What do I do? I'm new to ebay so haven't got a clue.

Thanks all.

A virus on a phone? Tell him to do one. What phone?

Did you keep a record of serial numbers? Maybe he's trying to return a broken phone to you and keep the good one.

Admittedly it's a Chinese phone but he knew that when he bought it. I clearly stated what the item was. It's brand new I only used it for a day which I also stated.

Everything worked fine for me

Okay cheers guy's. Thought it sounded a bit suspicious seeing as he left good feedback. What should I reply with? Literally the first and only thing I've sold on ebay.

You sold him a working phone, tell him to get bent, it's not your fault he's downloaded something dodgy onto it.

Dont respond to him, but keep any info he has emailed you, so if he trys a charge back from paypal, you can show them its nothing to do with you or the phone

I also stated no returns on the listing. I'll reply saying no returns. Sorry.

Is ebay always this bad with scammed etc? :(

Don't respond, keep the emails he sends. Once he tries to do something show Paypal you sold a working product and he broke it through his negligence through those emails.

If you try to mention it was his fault he might just try to say 'oh but wait x was broken on arrival' and you're screwed.

How much feedback do you have?
If its the first item you have sold and you have not bought much and have a low feedback score I think you will up against it as ebay always favour the buyer unfortunately, particularly if they have a higher feedback score than you.

Also how long ago did you sell it?

Edit: Sorry you said when you sold it in OP:o. He is still within the 30 day window and can open a dispute with ebay.

Unfortunately yes, but not just limited to Ebay, whenever you sell something you should protect yourself, take plenty of photos of serial number stickers and also write them down etc and keep them for your own piece of mind.

It is not uncommon for someone to already own a faulty item then to buy another working one and then try and claim it does not work, then returning the faulty one they originally had whilst keeping the working ordered one.

In all honesty with lots of years buying and selling on Ebay myself I have only ran into the odd quirk here and there but nothing major. So just make sure you protect and cover yourself and you should be ok. You can also set up on Ebay instructions for when selling to further protect yourself, such as the buyer must have a minimum amount feedback, country they live/confirmed etc.

First item I've sold an item unfortunately. But I've bought like 70 or 80 items. All with positive feedback.

He's now requesting a return. Ugh..

Edit. Saying the GPS doesn't work. And he's found a very serious trojan. This is the last time I use ebay for anything. He left me positive feedback of "great item" too.

Ebay is riddled with scammers and people who are just idiots. If you accept the return you will lose out on the postage cost's both ways as you will have to pay for the return postage, but at least you will get the item back. If he disputes with ebay the odd's will be against you and you could possibly end up with out the item or the money.

Tell him the phone was received in working condition, you aren't responsible for the things he's installed on the phone or the lack of GPS signal in his area. Recommend that he should do a factory reset to remove the 'trojan' and hope he's more careful in the future.

In all likelihood you'll be forced into returning it because ebay just don't care about you. They'll give him a returns label and send him the money over unless you can pull a miracle out of your **** and manage to convince them its the buyer being an idiot.

I'm going to say to ebay buyer is abusing the protection program? Because there is no virus, he's had the phone for days and could have put anything on it. The GPS was working fine when I used it. He gave me good feedback. I've already given a partial refund because apparently the back cover didn't fit correctly with the USB cable inserted. (He's probably used a larger micro USB cable)

What a hassle. Best option is to contact ebay I guess.

Talk about jumping through hoops

Its worth a try mate as it does sound like he is taking the **** being honest. Contacting ebay before he does could be your best bet. Good luck and let us know how it pans out. :)

That's all well and good but eBay won't look at it, they'll just hit the BUYER WINS button and then ignore you, because they see more value in keeping buyers happy.

As I have said before, what good does taking serial numbers do? How do you prove that was the item you sent, you could be trying to scam them.
