eBay just removed fees for private sellers (Except motors)

Damn, didn't see this coming. Definitely helpful for niche bits that have value but FB marketplace doesn't have the buyers. Whilst the high value items can be risky, it's less of a pain than FB collection.

Good if this means prices come down in general.
I'm generally using eBay instead of Amazon as everything I've looked for can be found a few quid cheaper.

I am expecting the bay to be more frequently flooded with more **** so it will be buyers nightmare to find better quality among the rest. Hopefully Im wrong

You are worrying about nothing, the vast majority of eBay is already commercial listings, hence going free for private sales. I can’t see much changing on that front.

EBay business for is all about the volume. You’ll get crushed by the search algorithm trying to sell against the big accounts selling huge volumes.

They’ll be no benefit to creating tens of private accounts because you’ll not get near the top of the list when selling your cheap tat from China to sell anything.

Abuse will be really easy to detect also because eBay now has complete control over the payment methods.

Hi,

Didn't see anything on this here so:

Starting Oct 1, 2024, it is free to sell for UK-based private sellers.

#Note#
From 16 October 2024, private sellers will no longer have a payout schedule, as part of the launch of eBay balance.

No! From "now", just logged into ebay and it told me I can sell for free lol.

That’s what he said mrk ! :cry::o

I very rarely ever use Amazon. Only maybe more expensive electrical items etc then I make damn sure it's from Amazon direct not a third party seller.

But for basically everything else I use eBay, it's cheaper, and I've had less issues with eBay than I have Amazon.

I recently won some networking gear off there on an auction at almost 50% of retail. Can pick up a bargain every so often.

Oh yeah, there are still definitely some bargains on there - the problem is filtering through all the dross the 38,393,123 identical (except for the randomly generated "brand name") "new" items sold by the same drop-shipper direct from China.

Case in point - I'm redoing the floor in my office. It's a pretty small room so to try and cut costs I've been looking for roll-ends/left over carpet & underlay(you know, exactly the kind of thing people will having lying around and want to get rid of after redecorating). It's a nightmare to find what I'm looking for, because 95% of the results are from businesses wanting full price.

It's mostly the same stuff, same with Etsy. They are flooded with all the same tat from China which someone has bought for peanuts on Aliexpress and re-listed on these sites :/

If I need something more urgently I'll pay the premium and get from eBay or Amazon, otherwise I'll wait the 7-10 days or so and get from Aliexpress.

I have a business account. I stopped using it for business. But they wont let me change it back to private.

Looks like I'll need to make a new account.
