Hi, i recently bought a graphics card off ebay but its dead (power on but no display) tested on my pc and tested at a pc repair shop...they agree.

So i messaged the seller to start the return process. He wants to see an engineer receipt or something confirming me saying graphics card doesn't work. I messaged him back with the tel number of the pc repair shop and said he was welcome to phone them to get confirmation (the pc repair shop were happy to confirm verbally but that is all as they don't want to get involved)

So i did that on friday but haven't heard back from him and he hasn't approved the return on ebay yet. Should i just wait for him or can i return the graphics card to him without going through this process?

This is the first time i've had to return anything on ebay (or indeed encountered any problem at all on ebay) so i want to make sure i get my money back. I have a feeling he might want to try and make things difficult.

7 or 8 days since i purchased it.

If you're doing it through eBay, give it a couple of days, if nothing tell him you're opening a PayPal dispute (I assume you paid this way) and you will get your money back.

If you have a feeling he might want to make things difficult, then personally I'd just begin the process (now) of raising a dispute / return via the ebay resolution centre...obviously giving details that the card has been tested and found to be faulty, and then just take it from there.

Keep it all through ebay.

Just follow the resolution process through, and then return the card when instructed by ebay to do so.

members market is where it's at for second hand pc hardware bro.
you should have access with your post count why not use it? oh wait are you really in taiwan?

Agree with Arknor, use MM in the future and even post in "Wanted" if you are happy to wait and save even more cash..

but with ebay I wouldn't go to the bother of an engineers letter etc, he sent you something, it doesn't work and your entitled to your cash back. Give him another day or so then open a dispute but most importantly do EVERYTHING via ebay, not e-mail so they can see your correspondence.

Usually awkward sellers start to play ball once you go through the dispute process so go down that route and everything exactly as instructed and you'll get your money back in the end :)

Assuming you paid by Paypal, you don't have to open the dispute immediately, you could open it in a few weeks and still get your money back. So you could be polite and exchange some emails with seller. However, it sounds like he's being a ****, so maybe give it a day and raise a dispute.

I think you were very generous to give him repair shop number, I'd have just stipulated it didn't work and left it at that, that would be good enough for Paypal.

As others have said, insured delivery + pictures etc, just to be on safe side.

This. Plain and simple.

Open a resolution center case. Follow the instructions. And that's it. I wouldn't even worry about taking photos etcetc; just start the process, your money will immediately be placed in escrow, and upon the item's return you can escalate the case, providing tracking info. If he signed for it, you get the refund, no questions asked..

Done this but doesnt seem to let you go futher until seller accepts it?

Ok i've been waiting still for the seller to accept the returns process on ebay. Once he does that i'm sure the next step shows me his address so i can print it out.

How do i get his address to return the item otherwise?

(This is probably a stupid question but i dont use this part of ebay much.)

Im also a bit peeved because for a separate transaction i had to return memory (my fault as i ordered wrong memory) i unfortunately sent it 1st class post at least 8 days ago but have heard nothing from the seller on that one either... :(

*bump* arghhh why me?

So ive sent the graphics card back to him (heres what he said)

I have received the GFX card. However: The install bracket has
been bent (not how it was sent) and the piece of fan is missing. The bent
bracket looks like the cards has been forced out of the test system. I will
send a photo if you want. I need this piece to be able to test the card.
Handled correctly, there is no way that piece of the fan would have just
fallen off. I can do nothing until I hear back from you.

afaik i didnt bend anything when testing in my pc and as far as i can see the pc repair shop didnt either so dont know what he is talking about

As regards the piece of fan. It came off when the pc repair place tested the card...it was glued on by the seller prior.

then he tests the card... later email...

I don't know where you got your information but I am running
this card right now and it's absolutely perfect. There will be no refund. I
will even make a video showing you this card working if you insist. My
suspicion is that you have no way of powering the card from your
motherboard and you bought it in error. This is NOT my problem or fault. I
have done everything according to eBays rules.

The thing is...to make sure it wasnt just my pc that had a problem with it i took it to a pc repair place

http://www.thecontrolpanel.co.uk/

They told me it didnt work. When installed the fans come on but no display. (same as what happened to me).

I am by no means pc tech savvy enough this is why i took it in to a pc repair place.

Sounds like he will refuse the refund? What do i do now?

You should be entitled to a refund if you follow the steps in raising a dispute and as above keep it going through Ebay. Buyer protection should apply.

The second opinion from the repair shop shouldn't be needed. Sounds like the guy is at it..

I think he has 8 days to respond and if he doesnt (which looks likely) then i will be able to escalate it . thanks :)

He has the card back and provided you also sent that back to him by a recorded method, should you have a dispute going, they will likely side with you anyway, so should get your refund.
