eBay seller problems..

I had the same problem when I sold a iMac G4 in 2009, they claimed that it wasn't working and when I asked for proof they kept shtum.

Took all my money out of my PayPal account and ignored eBay since.

Nasty site.

All these threads about eBay recently are really putting me off from using it again. What do eBay and PayPal charge these days on the final value fee? If I sold an item for exactly £10, how much would both take off and what amount would I get to keep that was all mine?

I don't like ebay much. My mum uses it a lot though. It somehow puts me in a lot of stress well it at least makes me nervous.

To be honest I considered the marks so minute I didn't bother taking pictures of them. I even sent pictures of the TV condition before where you can't see them (OK it wasn't a flash camera but who wants a flash camera on a glossy black TV) to eBay.

And no, this case went on for 4 weeks of emailing (he was even sending emails to two of my private email addresses as he got hold of them!). We must have had 20 email exchanges. That's why I'm so annoyed I lost the case as I put a very clear case forward in the eBay thing. Complained plenty to eBay but they didn't listen..

I think a key thing of this is when the case is very first opened it eBay tells you 'We recommend you side with the buyer'.

Paypal is linked to my bank account at the moment, should I remove that?

Seriously can't believe this one guy can screw me over so much for a TV he didn't want/wanted a cheeky extra bit of money off it.

Has the money left your paypal account and arrived in your bank account?

If it has, remove your bank account from PayPal and cancel any direct debits from paypal through your bank account.

If the money is still in your paypal account and not frozen, transfer it to your bank account then do the above.

Take no risks, they might try to screw you out of money and the TV by sending back an empty box, which ebay/paypal will ignore, and just focus on the fact that the tracking number says something was delivered.

Paypal will freeze an amount corresponding with the amount of the ebay auction in dispute.

So the buyer must have raised a dispute with ebay?

I'm currently in dispute with a buyer who bought and damaged a laptop and he raised a dispute on the 10th Aug and is deliberatley not escalating it until right up to the 20th (10 day escalation rule).

Some ebay buyers really know how to play the system and con genuine sellers.

This is all I see now about eBay and Paypal.

Thats because people do not tell you they had a good transaction.

I sell around 1000 transactions a month, and have losses of around 0.2% (This can either be buyer theft - unproveable, but I know it happens, or royal mail loss). No one goes shouting about the amazing service I provide. They are very quick to tell you when there is a problem.

99/100 the problem is the buyer. They do not read the description properly, they buy over the price they wanted to pay, they make excuses as to the real reason (they changed their mind), preferring to tell eBay that YOU did something wrong, when in reality, it was their cackhandedness on opening, using or damaging the product. Because eBay nearly always side with the buyer, they KNOW they can get away with being Liars Cheats and Theives!

I love ebay for the ebay shops.

I rarely purchase privately, and from selling I have only had one 'issue' which turned out to be the seller not knowing how to use a DSLR - I agreed to pay half the postage of returning it to me and back to him again out of good will (along with a free, but brief, lesson in using the autofocus settings on a canon 300D). Not sure I would do this regularly, but he was a nice chap and we worked it all out in the end.

Recently (last week) I have bought:

3 x USB leads for my HTC Desire HD (buy 3 get one free deal) - two days later 4 leads arrive, all work, all decent quality - not bad for £2.97 delivered.

Banana outfit (fancy dress) - arrived 2 days after ordering :D

600 shots of NOS + creamer - delivered next day, no fuss :D

Dunlop wellington boots - arrived next day, no fuss :D

10l camping water carrier - arrived next day, no fuss :D

3 x batteries for my HTC desire HD (it eats them) - arrived next day, no fuss (£8 for 3 batteries too!)

All of the above from shops rather than private sellers - some of them with unbelievably good offers.

If you do want to ebay, then shops are VERY good IMO.
