Bidding on an item from this member but feel like I'm being taken for a ride through false bids probably through a dupe account, opinions?

Stop bidding, if he is doing as you suspect then he will probably give you a 'second chance' to buy it at your highest bid if nobody else outbids him.

OCUK have some of these in stock for £150 btw.

go right up high so everyone else loses interest in his auction, then retract your bid a few hours before the end.

If I'm bidding on something on EBay and the 0 & 1 rated people start a bidding war with me I walk away. I know there will be legitimate people at those ratings bidding, but more often than not, there isn't.
When I'm creating auctions I restrict them to those with a 2+ rating, once again I feel sorry for the legitimate new users but won't risk it.

Blatant shill bidding. Unfortunately reporting it to Ebay is useless, banning members for shill bidding doesn't get them paid.

To be honest if you know the price you want to pay for either item and get it for that amount or less then does it really matter?

As with all ebay activity. Have an idea of what you want to pay and bid to that amount. If it goes over then walk away, if not then you've paid what you were prepared to for the item you want, regardless of whether someone else is bumping up the price or not.

eBay is a cesspit of scum. Look at the threads I made on it to see how angry eBay made me lol.

have an idea of what you want to pay, bid in last 10 seconds, IMO do not bid before that at all

Why would ebay scum want to deal with this problem?

the more the item sells for, the more ebay make, ebay is run for pure greed and greed only.

But they don't get anything if you open a claim... they have to return selling fees if the buyer doesn't pay.

I have reported members for shill bidding before and nothing gets done about it, ever.

This happens really, eBay don't mind as they get paid more fees.

One time I got a direct message from the seller saying he'd take £X for the item buy it now, even though it was an auction. Someone else eventually won the auction but I got a second chance offer pretty quick after.

Reported and eBay couldn't see what was wrong with that.
