ebay woes

Purchased an item from a seller, it is not as described and ebay have provided me with a free returns label and the seller has mailed me telling me to send it back to a different address.

i asked why and he claims he has moved, i told him to setup mail forwarding and he claims it costs too much.

should i just send it back to that address which is on the returns label....or hold on until he sorts it with ebay ?

how long do i have to return the item ?
 
Send it to the address the returns label is addressed to, tell eBay you've done that (and they'll be able to track it and see) and you'll get a refund.
Not your fault the seller is too stupid to update his details.
 
Do not return it to any address other than the one on the label. The seller should update their details on eBay so that a new label with the correct address can be generated.

If you send it to the wrong address and the seller claims it never arrived then eBay will side with the seller as you didn't follow process.
 
Yup just send it to the address ebay have provided.
Or if you are that concerned contact ebay explain what seller has said and have them contact him.

Make sure everything is done thru eBay message and not email.
 
yea im just going to send it back on ebays free label, i emailed him late last night telling him to phone ebay and sort it with them and he replies he is awaiting a response from ebay and of course he just happens to be abroad with limited internet and NOT SEND IT BACK.
 
well i couldnt find a way to contact ebay through email and i don't really fancy phoning them again...the last time the 2 phone calls i made ended up costing me over £15 and that's from a land line..,,yes they passed the hour mark.
 
I have carefully reviewed the details of this case and I have seen that your seller has updated their return address as there's nobody in their old address to receive delivery of the item back. After further review, I can also see that you posted the item to the seller's old address and it shows delivered but I am saddened to inform you that this was not received by the seller as the said address is no longer active.

NAME edited, please understand before we can process the refund we need to make sure that the item was successfully delivered to your seller. With this reason, we have decided to close the case in sellers as the item was delivered to the wrong address.

What can you do now?

If you already returned the item, depending on the service you used to return it, you may be entitled to compensation through the courier. I recommend that you contact the courier directly about this.

WHAT?

If you've followed what eBay asked you to do, you need to question eBay now as they gave you an address to use, it's not your responsibility to check if it's right!

I'd raise it up further if you can find a way. Otherwise, harass them on twitter / Facebook UK.

Hopefully, this will highlight how Ebay doesn't always find in favour of the buyer (as every ebay thread on here seems to suggest).
 
Yea ive emailed them but im guessing i will probably have to phone them and possibly deal with an idiot who refuses to think logically.

They provide me with a free returns label and provide the address and now it has ended up in the wrong place they want me to take it up with the courier who they provided.

Unless eBay tells the buyer otherwise, why should the buyer change the tracking address label? If the buyer did, and it turns out to be false / fraud, he's stuffed. He did as the process require, whether it arrives to the seller or not, it's between eBay and the seller, not the buyer.

Obviously, in this case the process failed and eBay isn't taking their responsibility to their process, and has dumped ownership of issue to the buyer, when it's between eBay and seller.

i dont know if he told ebay...he just said he would.

he also said he happens to be abroad and not to send it back until he gets back to me because he wont be there to accept it.

he never got back to me.



so with that logic i couldn't send it back to him.

Because the seller told him that the address was not correct. Why would you send something back to an address where you knew it wouldn't arrive with the intended recipient?

Because the seller failed to update eBay.

eBay at the time of request made a tracking label for the OP to send. If OP deviates from that, it's the OP's problem. If the OP sticks to it, the process will make sure it's seller's and eBay issue.

That's why the process is in place.

A message from seller can be investigated further, yes, but if the OP choose not to, it's still an eBay and Seller's issue, not an issue to be dumped back at the OP as the latest reply suggest.

I totally agree that OP was told.

The messaging between the OP and Seller isn't 'checked' until it's raised as an issue. The process is flawed and eBay needs to take ownership as messaging, even via monitored messaging isn't secure.

The buyer have no way to verify seller is genuine from messages. I am not saying the seller's at fault, I am saying the process laid out is as followed by OP, it's eBay that's trying to pull a fast one and blame the OP, for something eBay request him to do, regardless of messages from seller.
 
btw i had emailed ebay to let them know that the seller was asking for it to be returned to a different address...incase the seller had't.

when seller did not get back to me and ebay did not get back i sent it back, ebay then replied saying not to worry and that the seller has received the item and that they have requested the seller to refund me...


..on phone to ebay...



well finally got off the phone with ebay, they have decided to issue me with a refund as i did not do anything wrong and it was the seller who was at fault for not updating his address.
