EBC Redstuff Pads

i got "new" compound yellows in summer 2007

Didn't they change them again within the last 12 months?
I may be wrong about this, but I'm sure they were reformulated in 2008.

Edit, If your pads did suffer from poor cold bite then they must be an older compound as mine (and others I've tried recently) most definitely do not.

Relieved to see that they are up to the job! The discs/ pads have done sub 1k miles so should be ready to fit and give some abuse. Was half expecting everyone to jump on the 'EBC are ****' bandwagon. :p

Correct.
I'm using a set of yellows at the moment and they require no warming up whatsoever. Good solid bite from stone cold and even better when warmed up. They're also no noisier than OEM pads, although they can be bit on the dusty side.
Other than the dust side, there are no negative points against them IMHO.

Are these the normal Yellowstuff pads or the Yellowstuff 'R' compound?

Didn't realise they changed the compound. Could explain why mine are a bit gash when cold, because I bought them in August '07 and only had them fitted last July, so maybe mine are the old stuff?

I just call as I find, and my experience is the yellows are a great pad.

No idea mate, but they're the ones that carry the ECE R90 approval so perhaps this is where the "R" comes from?

I'm far from an expert, but I do have to say again that mine are as good as vanilla OEM pads from stone cold.

I had them in 2003/4 and they were awesome then TBH. No issue cold and significantly better than reds I tried.

I think the old reds turned into the greens at one point as greens were like cheese when hot :P

Don't they now do a blue pad, which is a little more extreme than the yellow?
I don't know anyone who's used these, unfortunately.

That's more of a problem with yellows AFAIK. Once they're warmed up though, they're immense.

I've got yellowstuff and have noticed no such issues

Bite when cold appears to be just the same as my OE pads, but without the OE pricetag (yellow stuff were £100, VX wanted £150 for pads alone)

But you're right, the yellowstuff are the more "aggressive" compound, so in theory might take longer to get going. They are rated by EBC for use track / fast road use

My pads were purchased about 2 months ago.

My yellows were £50 delivered.
Bargain IMHO.

Slight bump, has anyone had the problem of squealing with redstuff pads? They feel great, but the car sounds like a bus when stopping from low speeds. When I use them hard and get some heat into them, they are pretty much silent.

I made sure the calipers/ carriers were clean and free of rust, and applied copper ease to the 'black backing' of the pads. I estimate they've covered 1300 miles with the discs - the 'bed in coating' had already worn off when I fitted them.

I'm on my second set atm, fitted new discs with the first set, 30k later and the discs haven't been chewed up.

They have 0 bite from cold, which can be a problem particually when you need to stop a large car like mine, it feels like someone has put grease on the discs, they have this same issue when its very wet, problems are compounded in cold weather.

So they don't stop when you first get in, in the cold or the wet? They sound brilliant.

No, i said they have 0 bit from cold, they still slow the car down in those conditions but not in the same fashion as when they are warm, but its all relative, i bet they stop much better than most OEM brakes on the market regardless of the road conditions.

Its just the initial pedal feel is poor.

I really don't see the problem with initial bite. My usual running in whilst cold is let the car run for 1-2minutes to settle, take it steady up my road and applying the brakes 2-4 times to avoid any problems and until warm, drive under 3000rpm.

For the sake of a few brake applications before hurrying to work, surely it isn't an issue? I mean, it's worth the extra minute or whatever it takes to ensure you have better than standard braking for the rest of your journey.

I don't get any brake squeaking Leeum and they have been on the 350z since May if that helps :)

Problem with my trip to work is i drive for about 1 mile in a 30mph section stop twice at the most, then right onto a 60mph road i don't touch the brakes usually till 7 miles later in which i have to slow down from 60ahem... to 20 or a stop then back upto 60 and to 20 or a stop 1 mile later, rest of the trip is much the same all 20plus more miles of it.

Those two initial slow downs from 60 to a stop on a very cold or wet day means initial bite is very poor.
