lol people trying to cancel a singer ho won;t virtue signal

He probably cares about palestine/israel as muich as anyone in this thread does the 6-10 ongoing wars in africa you never heard of or don;t care about to know they are happening.

It;s weird isn;t it only suffering in palestine matters, no one cares about the terrorist wars happening in africa, boko haram, civil wars with genocides etc... is it cos there black and the leftists are all very racist?

Why does the world centre around and stop at palestine. whys that the hill people are supposed to die on?

Christ everything is so politicised and polarised these days can't a guy just provide some entertainment without taking a side in someone else's politics? I'm not the biggest fan of Mr Sheeran but this whole thing is ridculous it was bad form of the support act to effectively scupper his tour but then again he has form for it so maybe Ed shouldn't have been so naive. Either way you look at it it just leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Seeing the story yesterday reminded me I do enjoy a bit of the ginge so I listened to his playlist on the way home. I don't listen to him and I wouldn't go to his concerts to have politics/more world doom and gloom shoved down my neck if I want that I'll just stick the news on.

Because Israel/Palestine is a huge issue and has been for a very long time and a lot of powerful western countrys have a large Jewish population. They have also somehow managed to equate and anti-Israeli sentiment to anti-semitism which is absolutely wild but not entirely shocking in the world today where any semblance of nuance or dissent on "the right opinion" is jumped on as proof of a far greater sin.

As to this story, Sheeran is in a completely untenable position. Macklemore made his set political. This caused issues. Israel is especially influential in the US right now and pro Palestine rhetoric can get you into hot water.

Yes Sheeran could bin off the whole tour, take a stand etc but this is his tour. He has hundreds of thousands of paying fans who will have made plans. Booked hotels, taken time off. Cancelling it all would **** off a lot of people and cost a lot of people a lot of money. Sure, I applaud the support acts for taking a stand up to a point but they aren't the headline act. Ed Sheeran doesn't need the money and those guys probably need it far more than him so you can applaud them for that aspect of it but also, once one of them had pulled out, I imagine the pressure on the others ramped up.

As the discourse on Reddit around this shows, people are mental and think the world is a simple place where actions don't have consequences (unless of course you make the wrong decision). I would bet my right bollock that all the people saying Sheeran should cancel the tour over this or come out in direct support of Palestine are doing a multitude of bad things in their everyday life just to make their lives a little easier or more convenient and are just virtue signalling and getting those sweet sweet upvotes.

I'm not an expert on concerts, but what would happen normally if all the support acts pulled out?

Would they just shorten the length of the concert or just grab some more artists for the rest of the tour?

The politics itself doesn't interest me, but I don't think he (Ed) should be chastised for keeping his views private.

I enjoy listening to him too. I don't think Ed wants his gigs to be like that doom and gloom either. He has very much been chucked into the middle of something, quite unfortunate for him.

ecause Israel/Palestine is a huge issue and has been for a very long time and a lot of powerful western countrys have a large Jewish population
they really don't.have you actually googled the jewish population?

its only around 16mil people or around 25mil if you count people with only 1 jewish parent., and thats world wide.
most countries in Europe seem to have only 100k-450k jewish people.
thats a tiny minority. as the muslim population increases in the EU so does the hate for jewish people it seems.

roughly 20% of jewish people feel no attachment to israel at all. and 10% of those don;t think Israel should exist at all.

How can a very small minority be considered a "large jewish population" outside of america they are less than 1% of western populations, some countries not even 0.5%, in america they are less than 3% of the population.

I guess you can argue some of the ones in america are likely politically connected asnd very powerful people.

So is this really about making the world as hostile as possible for all jewish people? regardless of whether they are connected to israel/palestine at all? I wonder how many western jews have never ever set foot in Israel. I bet its not a small percent of them.

It's like demonising UK folk when USA cause issues to due UK folk partially colonising america.
but most UK folk have 0 attachment to USA and don;t identify as any relation of it.

Poor lads now got all the worst people on twitter saying they stand by him, he’s blatantly not even remotely anti Palestine/Islam but has now got the likes of Tommy Robinson etc bigging him up and calling him a true patriot and then on the other side all his touring mates have ditched him and made him look like he’s got no backbone.

Legendary PR fumble by him and his team, will no doubt blow over soon enough though. People mention the 1 million lost followers but he’s still got 40 odd million followers, he will be fine.

The tour is toast now as his backing band has pulled out too, so the net result is the same on that front.
The only difference is Ed now has more than a bit of egg on his face, In retrospect he should have just canceled the tour.
I think his heart is in the right place but he's played this terribly.

Joking aside, I don't listen to much new music, but I thought he was awesome in the under rated Danny Boyle movie Yesterday (2019).

He seems like a really nice guy.
