Whether the decision was his or his management, they were left in a lose - lose position and as usual there is a massive media pile-on

Is it only one death this year caused by such media attention ?

Capitulated.

Now to see whether 'giving in' is enough for the mob, or whether they will find more fault and now go in for the mauling.

This whole saga is pretty pathetic. He's basically been pressured to come out with some commentary on his views, and he's getting slaughtered for it anyway.

The backlash has justified why he hasn't got involved in geopolitics. Essentially the mob are saying you're complicit if silent, but no matter what you say, you're going to get criticised. If you mention the horrific terrorist acts of Hamas and the unacceptable destruction of Gaza and killing of Palestinians in the same speech, you're accused of sitting on the fence. If you show criticism of Israel, you'll be labelled anti-Semitic and vice versa.

There's zero reward because the words and views of musicians aren't going to stop the atrocities (if only it were that simple), but there's 100% risk.

The last thing I want to hear is the opinion of some multimillionaire whoes wealth means they're the least impacted by the **** show that is global politics right now (talking about Ukrainian and Iranian wars that have literally increased the cost of everything).

Indeed. It's a puritanical.

The moment you don't show complete 100% support and adherence to the cause, there is no way back unless you turn the pontification up beyond what would be considered normal.

Ed is either finished in the industry (none of these types will want to be associated with him) or he goes full on support for Gaza - at that point most won't believe him anyway as they will have doubts as to why he wasn't like that in the first place.

One of the worst things to do is stay neutral nowadays*, but I sure hope he uses his **** you money to just do/say what he truly believes rather than be pressured into changing who he is. Have a little self respect man!

*the online tribes will have you by the balls from all directions.

The Israel/Palestine situation is pretty clear cut. You can be anti-genocide without being anti-Semitic - only the wrong type of people will think otherwise.

From a PR perspective, he now looks pro genocide AND anti freedom of speech. If he'd just fought to keep Macklemore based on freedom of speech, he'd have way less criticism.

While you can, and i'd say it's a pretty fine line that not many can walk safely.

It really isn't clear cut at all.

Some see it currently as war, not 'genocide', in response to a boots on the ground attack on Israeli soil.
Some see it as long-term power = oppressor, therefore Israel = bad - no matter what Hamas did, and even justify what they did.

That is not clear cut.

Children dying? That is clear cut, and stopping that should be all that needs to be said and getting help for them is supported. You know what ends children dying? Ending the ****ing war, but no one appears to be interested in that.

Some people supporting Israel are being equated to 'literal' Nazis - while others supporting Gaza (and sometimes even appears to be Hamas) are also being equated to Nazis. This is fundamentally tribal and will only end in violence there, here and wherever this stuff goes and seeps into. I saw something the other day that hit me, along the lines of "They are labelling you a Nazi so that they can kill you." and realised that it's just another form of de-humanisation and BOTH sides of this ongoing disagreement are doing it. Scary stuff.

Also, as far as I know, Ed Sheeran has not dressed up in a "Jewish caricature" outfit, but he has stood by someone that did that and supported them regardless, so evidence there that he does value people's freedom to say/express what they want*. I don't think I could have done that, not without saying anything anyway. I think the easy going attitude of Ed Sheeran has caught up with him and bitten him hard on the **** as this world will just eat you alive eventually if you don't join a group (essentially a social gang).

*I think the issue he is facing now is finally discovering that while he is OK with other people having their viewpoints, other people don't like his views or his lack of sharing them and has been compelled into taking a stance.

I don't see how anyone can come to that conclusion at all, from a PR perspective or any other perspective. He's never said anything that's pro-genocide, and from what he's said, he tried to build bridges between the promoters, stadium owners and Macklemore.

I'm not sure what people expected him to do? Threaten to drop the tour if Macklemore was removed? That all sounds rather simple and easy to people when they don't have to consider things like he does such as fans who have paid money, travelled, taken time off work and paid for accomodation.

It's also not much of a threat when Stadium owners were already threatening to pull the plug on them playing in their venues.

Your comment proves exactly why he was damned if he did and damned if he didn't. Ultimately, his tour is under threat of not continuing or at least, not generating as much turnover and these things have absolutely zero impact on ending the atrocities any sooner.
