*****EGOSOFT TNBT (X Rebirth)****

Wait, what? This is out next week?

That was fast. Not sure whether to play now or wait a year or so for it to be... "finished". :p

I can feel me caving in and getting it on Steam anyway.. must be strong.. but I am weak!!
Same... debating whether to wait for holiday sale or just dive in now.

Looks too good to wait, and I could do with a fresh space sci-fi fix.

I hope the npc characters feel reasonably alive and have decent voice acting - I'm not expecting bioware quality characters, but it would make the whole game feel dead without decent npcs.

I have tried X games previously, I LOVE space stuff, I enjoyed Eve but was too late to the game. I spent hours plotting courses and playing that game. Loved it... Actually not sure why I stopped playing it... Think it was because I wasn't playing with anyone else.

Anyway, X Rebirth has caught my eye for 2 reasons...

1) SPACE, love space stuff.
2) Controller support, full support.

I want to play with a controller, not going to lie, laying in bed flying through space with a controller seems epic.

My fears though...

1) only one ship, the HUD will no doubt become boring after a while
2) Might be very repetitive... Mission here, space highway, hand in, mission there, space highway, complete mission, space highway back
3) A bit boring... I'm worried the content simply won't be there...

Are my fears silly?

With regards to the HUD, there was no awesome interactive cockpit HUD in any of the previous games, so it's a response to all the people that got behind the mods that introduced them to X3 and so on. While the HUD may not change much, does it ever really change in other games? If it hasn't bothered you before, I doubt it'll bother you now.

The point of the X games was always to make your own content, while their would be a plot which might span 20 - 30 hours and knit the in-game politics and society together, it was never really the focus of the game. The focus has always been how you choose to play it, the fact that after the first mission you could decide to make a mining empire or become a master pirate. From what I've seen, I think the story missions will be a lot more entertaining than previously and should give a good level of enjoyment, however, if you're going into it expecting the story to be the center of attention, then I feel you may be disappointed.

As for whether or not the content is there, people are still playing the last game. There is as much content as you want there to be. Whether you decide to be an explorer and search unmapped regions, create an empire and become a trading god, start a career as a pirate, join one of the military factions and get involved in a war. There's so much content and so many options, I don't think you'll have an issue there. Also, if you want more, the modding community rivals that of Skyrim, if not on size but on passion. There are thousands of hours of extra content that have been modded into the previous games, a lot of it is really top notch.

I am very disappointed about this 'one ship only' :( that means no more hunting for xenon or pirate ships, some people prefer to fly big cruisers others some agile heavy fighters...I think it was nice part of the game.

You have convinced me sir, I want to become a space pirate!

Any deals online for a steam key?

Good man, that's my plan! Well, either that or a bounty hunter/occasional opportunist pirate. I've not seen any deals yet.

They did say if there was enough interest post release they'd look at releasing a content patch to add more ships. Also, you can be sure that they'll be modded in before that. I think the idea is that the ship is a bit of a chameleon, so you can change modules to match your ship style.

So, any deals found for this?

Cheapest I have seen it is 34.99 but that is box copy all digital have been priced at 39.99. Is it me or is their a lack of places I can buy this, my usual places for box versions are not stocking this game at all.

I noticed that too wnb, not sure if it's intentional, also the pricing all seems very similar unlike most games. I'm starting to think they purposely restricted it to ensure it was mostly on Steam or via their website.

Not hugely fussed, but I had wanted a physical copy but the didn't trust the retailers to get it to me on release day.

I hope for the best but...have some doubts. Especially when any game company start saying "we will make it more simply" and "more accessible" etc. for new players, red bulb pops in my head because I've heard that before... Not many players these days is keen to spend 2-3 hours and learn game rules and options, if you simplify them, old fans start noticing that...somthing is missing. I hope building and managing massive factory hubs will still be as challenging as it was before.

Love these games, but I think I will wait at least 2 weeks before buying. Since x2 I haven't done and had to put up with the issues until they release the first big patch.

I completely see where you're coming from. However, it took me 3 attempts to get into X3 as it was just so complicated from the get go. I think the balance would be a user defined learning curve. So it's easy to get started, but if you want to add complexity by making factory hubs etc then you can. I think that's what they were aiming for. Whether or not they achieved that is another matter.

As far as factory hubs go, I have no idea on gameplay changes. Although, they look absolutely amazing now. None of that spaghetti junction nonsense, it looks like a proper hub.
