Eight months later - R8 Delivery day!

Nope, the shortlist in essence is BMW M5, Audi R8 V10, 2013 Shelby GT500, R35 GTR or brand new Mustang. Yep my car choices are completely random, make no sense at all. :D

That's some random list indeed (Fox would have a fit!) the M5 very much strikes me as the odd one out from the shortlist although I somehow suspect were you to get one, it wouldn't remain standard for very long...

Random is fine in the category your considering though, all cars to gladly sell organs for!

I look forward to enviously admiring the outcome on my next wallet denting at the shop!

I'm an ex R8 v10 owner so I thought I would add my 2-penneth worth.

When I was looking to buy I compared the v8, v10 and GTR35.
The v10 has much more mid-range grunt and in-gear acceleration and the engine makes a nice exotic noise. In the v8, if you put your foot down at 70-80 in top gear, not a lot happens. You have to drop it down a couple of gears and rev it out. Do the same in the v10 and it will surge forward.

I tried the exhaust mod and it didn't really make much difference to the sound, plus I lost a bit of the low down response so I put it back to standard.

Mine was also a manual and it makes a lovely click-clack noise as you move the lever around the gate. Whether manuals will be worth more further down the road, who knows?

Mine was 100% reliable and the only issue I had was with the tracking and keeping the wheels in alignment. I never really gelled and felt totally confident with the handling, which is why I sold it.

Also, strangely, I never experienced any of the attention at gas stations that others have discussed on here - not that that's why I bought it.

Regarding residuals, I found as with other brands, that there's often a big difference between sticker and what the car actually sells for.
Mine was a 2 year old Audi Approved Used car and when I bought it in Jan 2012 I got about 10% off. I sold it in May 2013 for £58k which was the going rate at the time. The car was in excellent condition for its age and miles and wouldn't have needed any remedial work to the body or wheels.
I haven't really followed the market for R8's since, so unless prices have gone up, I wouldn't be looking to pay more than £55-60k for a nice, genuine, low mileage, 09/10 v10

I know its a bit late (only just come across this thread) but congrats to the OP on speccing up a really nice v10 and I hope you will enjoy it in good health.

They seem to be holding value quite well. I would consider buying one if you could get a good 2010 car for £55k.

JP, a mate of mine had one of these for a few years, V10 manual like yours, but retractable hardtop. Awesome machine.... Drives incredibly. Love the red n all :)

So JP how you getting on with the R8? With the new one about to come out I suspect the V10's at circa 75K for a V10 550BHP might be a time to get one. You enjoying it, anything learnings you can share about ownership?

No other cars really interest me without spending hundreds of thousands so that must say something.
Maybe if McLaren did a manual 570S but that will never happen.
I think the drivetrain, magride, manual gearbox and V10 are just the perfect combination for the road.
Nothing really to report as far as ownership goes, R8 Talk forum is the place to ask the real long term high mileage owners, so far due to travel and business mine had been a bit of a garage queen and only done lots of short journeys into the city, to play golf or the pub.
I wish I wasn't busy this weekend so I could have driven over to the RR day and then there is an R8 Talk UK meet tomorrow!

To be honest going to see other cars the same as mine sounds boring, even an all Audi one would be mind numbing :p, I would only have stopped off on the way home to have a quick look!

I really enjoy the OcUK meets for the variety :D, I was hoping that someone would do a karting one this year!
