Eight months later - R8 Delivery day!

Awesome car and looks great in red. Congrats.

Does this one have the sweeping indicators?

As for Golf... you'll have to try a Jaaaaaaag Coupe for the two bags of sticks option and you'll probably find a proper stick sat on the console soon ;)

911 is a supercar now?

In my view, no chance. 911 Turbo has supercar performance and supercar price, but for me its no supercar. Bit like a GTR really, all the performance but not a supercar. The R8 in my view is a 50/50, the V8 no chance, its slow, the V10 very much so as it addresses the issue of the V8 slowness and is no longer slow but infact very quick. :)

I was stating how cheap expensive fast cars are to insure that don't get barried by chavs, plus insurance gets much cheaper as you get older and more experienced. :)

That is the beauty about a 911 and even a Cayman/Boxster they do not get chavved up, some of the older ones might be dropping to around 10k to buy a ropey one, but the running cost are still that of a Porsche which is by no means cheap, plus on the older cars you have the engine worries and to potentially budget for. Only 997.2 cars and newer resolved the scoring and IMS issues completely, but the most basic 911 997.2 will be around 30-40k. Like any car a chavved up 911/Boxster/Cayman do exist but a very rare thing indeed.

lol...exactly what I was thinking.

I wouldn't consider the R8 V8 slow...especially considering you can buy one for like £40k. What else can you buy for £40k which is like an R8? (apart from the GTR)

a C2S PDK (997.2) which in my view is a much better all round car than the V8.

dat lethargic 4.5 seconds 0-60...

the same statistic as your C2S

so by your own admission your 911 is slow.

good work Gibbo :p

30-130mph the C2S gives a brand new R8 V8 a kicking, lets see how quick a V8 R8 is after a few thousand miles and being coked it. Well known issue that most RS4's and R8 V8's make in the 360-380BHP region and then the 4WD transmission losses result in the performance certainly not being supercar quick.

Both the R8 V8 and C2S have actually being tested 0-60mph at 3.9s and 0-100mph at 9.7s for the C2S and 9.9s for the R8 V8. Problem for the R8 V8 just like the RS4 they loose horsepower over time due to the FSI causing coking issues on the engine, major issue Audi had on that engine in particular.

My point is a supercar is crazy quick by modern supercar standards, my car is just a quick car, but there are many many cars as quick quite easily for example a mapped Golf R or Focus RS would be practically as quick as my 911 in a straight line. Its just a quick car, but nothing special.

A supercar by modern day standards should be doing 0-60 in sub 4s, 0-100mph in sub 8s and be topping out around 200mph, be mid-engine, very rare, cost in the region of 150k new and only seat 2 people.

The only Supercar Porsche make in my eyes is the 918 Spyder. but given the choice I'd take the slower 911 GT3 anyday if it was being given to me and I was not allowed to sell it on.

Well these absolute crucify the R8 V8 in all fairness, hell if a 997.1 C2S with 355BHP and a manual box has the legs on an R8 V8 which they do. The 997.2 C2S PDK the R8 V8 would not see where it went. ;)

They do sound awesome though, only topped by the old V10 that was in the Murcielago.

When did that happen?

I'd definitely go the plug in the hose route as with any Audi now if you disconnect any electronics your dash will flash and beep like it's xmas.

I can do this on the W12, disconnect the hose from the actuator either side and put a plug in them. Sounds great but like the R8 the W12 also apparently loses a bit of low end.

Also gotta think about it as they spent so much developing these cars, the exhausts are like they are for a reason, they are finely tuned to work perfectly in balance with the car, start messing with it and you may gain in one area but lose in another.

What do you recommend plugging the hose with?

Lovely R8 mate, the colour is beaut!

Any updates JP, review?

Noticed V10's are around 65k now so potentially on my radar. :D
Had any issues so far?
