Elder Scrolls VI Announced!

If it was that far away, they wouldn't announce it in 2018.

You can live under some false illusion it is coming earlier but he is right, they have been repeatedly hounded about it hence the early announcement. It's described as being in pre-production (so design/concept phase) and they have stated it will not arrive until after Starfield and both titles have been described as next-gen. We know from the Sony boss that the next consoles are due around 3 years from now. So it's not hard to deduce that the game is probably at best 4 years away. I would expect at least 4-5 years from design/concept which would put it at approx 2022/23.

I think 2021 is the most likely. No chance before 2020. As has been mentioned, they've not even started it apparently, and it's going to be released after Starfield which from the sounds of it is 2-3 years away

Starfield is more likely in 2021 I suspect given what I said above.

I hope so too. I've replayed Oblivion numerous times, Skyrim only once.

This could launch with the next generation of consoles.

Both Starfield and TES 6 were described as next-gen with Starfield coming first, I suspect Starfield is launch title with TES following 1-2 years after.

Personally I think Skyrim improved on most areas of Oblivion, the combat, the movement, the level scaling, the gameplay mechanics etc and the world layout and graphics.

The one area that I think fell away was the guilds and story telling. Skyrim told the story from a detached 3rd person perspective. Whereas Oblivion was right in your face (literally zoom camera) and the dialogue and interactions felt more personal. So for me I remember the characters from Oblivion more, I remember the guild storylines because they had greater impact on me.

If they can combine Skyrim's world and better movement and gameplay, with Oblivions more personalised story missions, guilds and NPC interaction, then it could be the best one yet.

I just hope it's more Oblivion than Skyrim.

Yeah completely agree with you. Still cannot understand why everyone is hyped with Skyrim. The main storyline was too short, and everything around was "too macho" for "a special dragonborn guy".
You couldn't play a Khajiit or even a Breton and feel that you are in the right place. Only to play as Norse made sense.

Oblivion was far superior game, both on main storyline, even if it had bit grind, and overall atmosphere.

Hopefully as the new Skyrim being placed at High Rock or North West Hammerfell (given the video footage) would make much better setup for more intrigue in the actual game storyline.
I have to say after the Queen Ayrenn quests storyline in TESO with the Veil Heritage and her brother, they have a pretty high bar set to achieve in that part.

Otherwise going to be a disappointing "special born hero quest" like Skyrim or in terms of TESO the ones related to Pact or Covenant Kings.

Personally I think Skyrim improved on most areas of Oblivion, the combat, the movement, the level scaling, the gameplay mechanics etc and the world layout and graphics.

Yeah. Skyrim storytelling was bad compared to Oblivion. And must say I have re-played oblivion numerous times (both on PC and PS3). But Skyrim every time I start again getting out of the prison, feeling bored.

Well normally they don't announce anything until it's coming out that year, but this is different. They've been hounded about ES6 for years and they know fans are getting impatient. They've repeatedly said in interviews that ES6 is a long way off and that they're waiting on technology to realise their vision. They've stressed it repeatedly that it's not happening because they have other things they want to work on before it.

IMO the reason they showed this non-trailer was a way of shielding themselves from the flack for the mobile Elder Scrolls Blades game they announced. In the presentation you could hear the crowd getting restless everytime he said Elder Scrolls and he even started looking nervous. They knew this would happen and that's why they announced the game this early.

Yeah, this is my view also.

So it'll be 11-12 years between TES V and VI, whereas we'll have had four Fallout titles (or three if you exclude 76 due to it being multiplayer & non-RPG) in ten years (2008 - 2018).

It's because they really don't care about Fallout, it's just a mild money maker at this point, otherwise they wouldn't constantly be cowering from Obsidian's effort by continuing to rip the game's ethos to shreds.

I swear it's out of spite now, clearly the Bethesda veterans and newfans don't care about previous directions because "dur bethesda" or low self awareness of what Bethesda should be able to provide in a game. Their story telling is went from wonky (some excellent ones, some not so excellent ones) to seemingly utter trash with the likes of FO4, i don't hold much hope, clearly it's just all about that tech now, rather than actual deep games... every single conference is just "look at this new engine function....wow".

I feel their other games (under Zenimax in general i mean) are fantastic, but seemingly Todd Howard has soured in my eyes.

Please let it be single player only.

I really hope its Single player, HOWEVER I would love it to have multiplayer support (maybe 1 - 4). Similar thing to Borderlands, its really fun playing RPGs with friends, especially if you all take different classes. I do not want an MMO though or drop in/out like Divinity. Just a server-client model (Where the server is somebodies machine, not hosted lobbys) allowing for multiplayer where needed aslong as the story doesn't suffer. Opens up more to do with friends and can add challenge with unit scaling and more tactics

Not necessarily. Multiplayer in this sense would be two people who know each other, they will easily be able to have the same mods. Heck, even Minecraft manages hundreds of mods on a server and client easily. Some games even support mod files being sent from server --> client at connect. Providing its simple then I don't really see an issue

If its still Gamebryo style scripts and such, no. Even the slightest mismatch is a disaster. Then you have Script extenders, impossible as the EXE will have to be locked down for MP to even remotely exist in a form that any respectable developer would release.

Theres always going to be some mods that are not going to work, but thats just life. FO4 mods were just single files in some instances and so was Skyrim. Bunches of other games do it with a central catalogue too (even such as FO4) or the Steam Workshop, or as I said, files distributed from the server. I really don't see the issue. Even then if the game supports it then modders will need to work around it whichin the past they have done.

There's no working around an increasingly hostile environment for the level of freedom that currently exists, for a developer like Bethesda, that level of freedom is bad for business. Unfortunately it's also good for business. They will eventually shut out that competition.

Games that last use mods. Skyrim and Minecraft are infact perfect examples. The games only lasted this long because of the mods - its in their interest to ensure they have support. Bethesda even released modding tutorials on Youtube etc. If they want the games to last longer and have a larger player base they should be encouraging it not denying it.

Nailed it with that description..... maybe throw in a VR element as I'm aching to get a propper VR RPG.

Pre order for me 100%. There hasn't been an elder scrolls game that I've not played to death. Don't see it changing.

Mind you, I'd like to play it before I have a child in the next 5 years!!!!!
