They weren’t that much older? They both pitted when Verstappen went off.

Albon was a bit sold out by the team not giving him fresh tyres when Verstappen went out.

George Russell made a terrible error.

Special shout out to C4 for going to an advert with 4 laps to go.

Unexpected 2 Alfas in the top 10.

Well Perez was ahead of Dani Ric, so Renault could just chose to do the opposite. If Perez stayed out, Danni Ric comes in, and takes him with easy at the restart.

My, my, wasnt Hamilton a lucky boy today.

Or was he? I'm not so sure. The decisions to push, to go long, to not give up helped capitalise on an opportunity and the being in the right place at the right time was somewhat due to those decisions. Decisions very much led by Hamilton. He has an outstanding racing brain and a tenacity that is, I don't feel, matched by any other driver. Except maybe Max.

I feel for Bottas, on paper that was his race to win. But against Hamilton you have to be near perfect or better for any hope of success. Bottas just isn't.

Albon - oh dear. Not the driver I hoped he was and surely must lose his seat after a string of poor performance and todays unforced error?

Surprised at Russell - not a mistake I would peg him to make.

Heartbreaking DNF for Max. And Gasly to be fair. In general the RednBull B team lads are pushing hard and I think that further highlights Albon's under performance.

Not a great track. Too much of a procession. DRS wasn't really working in my view. Maybe a track to be consigned to the F1 history books?

Another of this season's races that was much more exciting than it deserved to be.

Hard on Bottas with car trouble, but Hamilton made the most of it and lucked into a timely VSC. Gutted for Gasly, he was brilliant this weekend, and I'm sure he'd have taken a podium today. Max's push for second in the WDC is surely over now. Dani Ric delivers for Renault. Leclerc again shows that the Ferrari is not as bad as it's been made out.

Mixed race for RP. Stroll ruined his race with a small mistake on the first lap, but I guess at least he finished this race, and Pérez had the pace for 3rd but then the wrong tactical call and a poor restart left him in 6th. A good result for him given where he started but could have been so much more. After a really strong first half to the season, it's all gone wrong for Stroll.

Brilliant from Kvyat, showing he does have some talent left, and respect to the two Alfas finishing so strongly. A couple more laps from Kimi on those mediums and he'd have been 5th or 6th. Latifi did well to come 11th, whilst Haas had one of their worst races yet. And then George. Oh George. All that work to put himself in with his best chance for points yet, and all on merit, and then a silly error throws it away.

Albon is going to Formula E next year. I'm sure of it.

Lewis was already in the virtual lead of the race before the VSC was initiated. That just made his pitstop a bit more comfortable.

This. He’d already built an almost 30 second gap and the vsc just made it comfortable.

As much as I like Albon and think he’s a decent driver I just don’t think F1 is for him. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be? Plus due to the ruthlessness of RB he’ll have even less of a chance to continue in F1 unless picked up by another team.

I’m still of the opinion that RB’s second seat is one of the toughest in F1 right now. That’s down to max being a beast and RB not shy about making driver changes. So good luck to anyone that goes there.

Just saw a rerun of the race. Happy that some have mentioned that Hamilton already had the gap to come in for a 2.5 second pitstop and come out in the lead at full speed.

Bottas must be miffed though; he should have been given the same option to go long; one strategy for Bottas and one for Hamilton

Why would he go long? He would have been undercut by both Verstappen and Hamilton.

It only worked for Hamilton because Bottas held Verstappen up.

Hamilton switching to a long run was because they saw that Hamilton was actually pulling away on the older tyres.

Hamilton's exceptional speed and tyre management gives him strategy options that other drivers don't have. They can't make the necessary time gaps or make the tyres last long enough, so Hamilton gets to do advantageous strategies that the others can't make work.

Did anyone see the interview with albon on sky after the race? It was painful to watch. He was convinced a McLaren has punted him off. When you watch the replay there’s no one near him. How embarrassing.

At the time we didn’t know about his car damage. It all made sense in the end when this came to light. Leave Hamilton out and use Bottas to hold up max. Without the car damage it’s unlikely Hamilton’s strategy would have worked on this occasion.

I used to like albon , now he's outstayed his welcome, I think he knows he's gone.

Looks like redbull have already signed someone, might be Perez,

Stroll is getting worse, Ocon is disappointing, Russell needs a few solid finishes. Latifie well never going be a star.

Tbh I'm not sure what these billionaires kids get from it, they must have no pride.

Alas, I have to agree that Albon will be looking for something else to keep him occupied next year. Lovely chap, but his job was to be wingman to Max every race weekend and he’s consistently failed to do that.

Cringe at Albon self spinning.
Albon needs to go. Redbull need two top drivers not one. Redbull keep defending Albon saying the Redbull is harder to drive. Bring the Hulk in.

I felt that was the worst race of late because it's just too aero restricted so you can't follow closely, and too narrow. Great history and all that (well, tragic too) but not a good track for the modern day F1 era. DRS unfortunately went the other way this week and did not help enough. I'm a Lewis fan, but even I was disappointed not to see a true top 3 battle on track. The stupid Virtual safety car messed that up. I swear they are always going way too much on the safety now with parked ars seemingly in non risk areas. But hey ho.

There were Mercedes radio messages saying that Bottas was now minus 1 second to Lewis, so their predictions were certainly coming to the conclusion that Lewis was ahead.

Albon needs to be in another team. The Red Bull team is now built around Max. Gasly is better off at AT as the #1 driver there. Actually I think you can see it as far back as Vettel and Webber when Vettel was the #1 driver.

Ask Jules Bianchi about that.
