He's mediocre. There are better drivers out there. F1 moves fast. Russell, gasley, Perez, hulk are all available.

Really, the only two teams with two. Decent drivers are merc and mclaren.
But even Bottas is a clear number 2

That's an interesting perspective since I'd imagine most would say Ricciardo to be only slightly below Max, and Lewis in terms of top tier drivers. Perez isn't particularly fast. Hulk is more like a Bottas driver. Gasley and Russell are doing great, both are still unproven in decent machinery.

In fact Dani Ric beat Max in 2 seasons (even if the first starts from Spain) and lost out in the third. The last two seasons he had more mechanical DNFs also. Where Max shone more was in qualifying where Ricciardo was on average around 0.2 slower, but still had more poles in their time together.

Ocon has been the disappointment. I don't feel he contributes much points wise or development wise.

I don't know how fans feel they're really qualified to make serious comment on a drivers contribution to development. How would you, or I, know how much Ocon contributes? We're basically operating on third hand rumours.

I don't think Ocon's disappointed, I think he's performed about as well as expected. Which is to say that he's an ordinary driver up against one of the best and he's being beaten. In '17 and '18 he was beaten by Pérez, up against the markedly better Ricciardo he's getting beaten by more. What did people really expect from him? Especially after a year twiddling his thumbs.

I'm only going off reports saying he's struggled with setup and asked for various changes rather than trying to bond with the team. I accept it takes time to gel and find your feet but I was genuinely expecting a lot more from him. I'd rather Perez get his seat next season if at all possible.

I want to see a hungry Perez and Alonso guide Renault to a decent place next year.

Fair enough. I missed those.

I think Alonso is a mistake for Renault; but Pérez would be a good fit. I think they should be looking at bringing one of their junior talents in for 2022 probably Lungaard, or Piastri if he performs really well. Ocon staying in that seat in the interim isn't the worst thing.
