**EMPIRE TOTAL WAR**

I think that's a sound issue, but there's probably more info at the official forums or maybe twcenter.net or totalwar.org.

I'd left the game until the patch and just ran it briefly to check it works but apparently there are still some other major problems with graphics and diplomacy :(.

Just picked this game up again for the first time in a few weeks. I've hardly played it and i'm just working through the early missions as the american colonials.

I'm completely stuck though at the point you need to build a navy. Basically I cannot move my ship very far out of port. There's hardly any green area to move out of and I can only get to a point and I just get "cannot move there, sir" or "that's land, sir"! :(

Am I doing something obviously wrong? I can't find much help about it online..

Sigh I bought it but I can't finish downloading it til next month because I'm worried I'll go over my TalkTalk cap. Don't suppose anyone has any experience with how they are about you going a little over?

Diplomacy in 1.3 is really starting to annoy me, the moment a country declares war you aint getting out of it until you completely destroy them from what I've seen.

I've only been able to peace out with one nation so far and I've been in a lot of wars. Otherwise the patch seems alright not brilliant but alright so far.

What would people consider essential mods for this game? I would look through the thread but it's 1500 posts long almost so it would take hours :S

I've spent some time on this now - best £15 I've ever spent to be honest. Thing is with this game, it's fundamentally different to the other Total War games and there is rather large learning curve before you master it. There is loads more micro-management. I'm having to learn hands on as I don't have access to any instructions.

My initial 'buggy' experiences were down to overclocking! As soon as I reset my VGA back to stock, the crashes disappeared (for now!).

I've still only dabbled with regards to the diplomacy aspect of it - is it really as broken as people say? I have managed to trade some technology with other factions, but only a couple of times. I'm not earning enough money to really get to grips though.

I've had some graphical glitches, and once my Dragoons were stuck in some woodland and wouldn't dismount or move. There are definitely issues, as there are in all TW games, but I'm sure a lot of these will be resolved in due course.

I've not tried any mods at all, as my system is struggling as is. I'm running a 3ghz dual core cpu with a Nvidia 260, both at stock. I can't overclock the cpu due to the mainboard, and I don't want to overclock the VGA due to the capacitor whine and the overheating. So I'm a bit stuck really. I can run the game with most settings on high but I have to turn off HDR and the new funky effects.

For me the most disappointing thing about empire is all the stuff that was advertised in the official videos before release that isn't accessable. It is there modders are finding new bits all the time and i think CA will activate them in an expansion. Personally with the dlc and expansion on the way i think Ca are milking the community more with this game then they ever have and that is on the back of the game being released and still for many being bugged to hell and unplayable.

Got the latest patch playing a campaign and can i hell as like get a peace deal i offered 15 different techs, trade agreement, military access and 1,000,000 and the deal was refused even though the enemy was down to one region with six of my armys in it. As is becoming the norm they sort out a few issues and break a few more things and then want credit for putting them right.

This will be the last CA game i pay full price for as this is the second one in a row i have bought that has been bugged to hell from now on bargain bin and only then will i bother.

Rizla, I can understand that it can be a very frustrating experience with all these broken things, but be patient and I'm sure they will get fixed! I know that isn't the point, but at least most of these issues can be addressed given time.

It was the same with MTWII, the diplomacy in that was bugged to hell and back and it wasn't until the modding community set to work on it that they realised there were some errors in the scripts that prevented peace treaties/alliances from forming correctly. They were eventually put right, but it took well over 12 months if memory serves. I'm not even sure if CA put it right themselves, but I didn't care as I rarely played the vanilla campaign, I was always using the mods. I have to say, Empires is far more polished in that respect. It's raised the bar. It feels more or less complete, and seems to finish just in time for the Napoleonic wars to start, so I can see an addon pack addressing that in due course.

No CA didn't resolve all the issues in MTWII and even modders couldn't fully sort some out and that also left a bad taste in my mouth just abandoning the game once they had made as much money out of it as they could. To have a repeat with empire which is what we have is showing a trend that doesn't make the games good enough for us to support. Also while i greatly appreciate the work of the modders many of whom do a fantastic job it really shouldn't be up to them and they shouldn't have to do it for us to get a decent game. CA are starting to behave very badly even for a games company and it is sad to see as once upon a time they did have a pride in their games and it showed.

I feel stupid for asking this question, but here goes

I remember in previous Total War games I would select a unit, tell them to attack and they would move within range, and then start shooting.

However in the few battles I've had in Empire when I select my units and tell them to attack the enemy they tend to just stand there and not shoot, even if a rain of arrows are landing on them! If I move them closer to the enemy, maybe a handful of the men will start shooting, the rest stand doing nothing. It seems the only way I can really get them to all attack is using the melee mode.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong? Or perhaps combat in Empire works differently to previous Total War games and I haven't sussed it yet...

i know i was really disapointed with the controll system throught the game, actually qall in all its just not that great :( it doesnt help that, as always with total war games, you start of with an empire far too big to succesfuly manage as no money comes in while you have to take care of quite a few settlements. it also makes it all soo much more confusing with research etc.

Has this game been fixed with patches yet? Wondering if this is a good time to buy it as I found the special forces edition for £20

not really. 1.4 is expected at the end of the month.

Probably wait out for napoleon total war tbh..

Good game not as good as the others but worth a try.
MP is pretty good fun played some ocukers but i cant be beaten...yeah thats a challenge come on you noobs i dare you to go against me.

It's good but not great, the poor AI and lack of naval invasions take the edge off. Also patch 1.3 makes it crash all the time for me.

All in all, wait for 1.4. It's not a write off now (as long as it runs) but the planned improvements should make a big differance

I've still never loaded it all these months later, I'm never buying total war again.

Empires was released as half a game, and afaik still haven't released a toolkit to the modders.
