Has anyone read what this **** has said about gaming:

http://www.geeks.co.uk/7282-activision’s-bobby-kotick-hates-developers-innovation-cheap-games-you

This is the guy who screwed COD Modern Warfare 2 on pc.

He's got me fuming with his absolute contempt for all gamers, including consoles.:mad:

Cue the never ending annual release of repackaged crap with a dose of overly priced 'controllers' that will no doubt be incompatible with the previous incarnation.

If you ever wondered if you (as a gamer) were ever seen as anything more than a cash cow for these guys, then wonder no more!

Thats the end of me ever buying Activision stuff again.
Long live Steam and some innovation in the industry.

We get this thread every 3 days and it's getting really, really, really boring.

The PC gaming industry has been ending for 10 years now, and everyone is aware that it's a business, not a service.

What I meant was theres a thread about the end of PC gaming every week, although the recent MW2 news has sort of provided a bit of evidence this time. But having just read that link it is pretty disgusting the way that guy is running the show, but hey business is business and if the developers who work for Activision don't like it they will eventually branch off and make independent companies who produce games focused on the player.

Was also shocked to see WoW has a 50% margin, thats incredible, no wonder Activision wanted to buy Blizzard.

Bit old but yeah, the guys a complete douche, but i guess he has to be to bring in the bacon (that is his job). There going down the old EA route of screwing people out of every penny they have, they will hit a brick wall and be forced to do something new, people dont take the same rehashed crap every year (unless its a sports game :p).

Agreed there's been a general doom n gloom outlook on pc gaming.

However it isnt every 3 days we get a major pc game being revised to exclude one of its fundamental features removed.

Dedicated servers have been core in placing pc gaming as the de-facto online gaming platform.
How many of the big games would be still playing today if they didnt have an online server?

Wave bye bye to Half Life, CS, TF2 and a whole raft of others if they didnt have dedicated multi player servers.

The worse aspect of what this company are doing is if they set a precedence.
You can bet the money men behind other games company's will be pushing for a similar business model.

Activision have done pretty well with the model up to now (constant rehashing of the same game, big name bands and big price controllers each year).
Hardly innovative or pushing the boundary's, but how often will peep's pay an play the same old generic offerings?

People have been proclaiming the end of PC gaming since the original Playstation was released.

As for the OP's link... business man in "I want to make money" shocker. People have always used games (be it PC or console) as a cash cow for decades. Nothing is new here.

While I do agree that we have been discussing this for 10 years+ the games industry is not what it was 10 years ago. To get a game off the ground these days can not be done on a shoestring budget with half a dozen people. Having said that it is incredibly stupid of IW & Activision to not release dedicated servers when it would probably take 2 people half a day to come up with the code.

But I agree the general trend for PC gaming is worse than it was 5-10 years ago.

Yeah, I've been to Digg site and also signed the petition.

It was more a dig at the general trend setting within pc games.
More and more we're seeing games coming to pc without decent multiplayer options.

Hope this trend reverses, I'd die without my daily helping of TF2....

I've only been gaming on the PC for about ten or eleven years but since around 2006 ish it does seem to be declining somewhat. There is still stuff on the horizon to look forward to but it is very common for it to either be scaled down and generally not as well supported. If companies like nvidia are actually branching in to other markets then it doesn't really surprise me.

Funnily enough it's games that have nothing to do with Valve and Blizzard I've enjoyed more over the years. Batman Arkham Asylum was superb, Legacy of Kain Series, Dungeon Keeper series, AvP Series, etc. There are some cracking developers working on the PC it's just that you'll get the odd 'visionary' who thinks gaming has to change to survive. The only thing I want is more inovation. I don't want to continually play FPS's - that's why Batman was a breath of fresh air.

I think this post was worth the read, its a shame about the thread title really... I tend to equate 'the end of pc gaming' to 'THE SKY IS FALLING' ... I do doubt that IW will start a new trend for no dedi servers. Especially as dice are using that to promote their new titles now.

Kotick does seem out of touch with the game aspect of the gaming business, but i'm sure he makes them a lot of money. The quotes do make him sound like a **** though...

Im sure there are more examples, but when you have games like Football Manager that can only really be run successfully (i know there are console versions that do a job) but I mean with all the bells and whistles.... then there will always be a PC game market. I mean how many copies does that sell annually on release?

Im not a massive gamer anymore... I mean I use my laptop to game and it does a job with the games I enjoy, im not a huge graphics person as long as its nice enough I can handle it.

Though it is rare I buy PC games... as im primarily a sports fan.... recently I bought NBA 2K10 for PC at £12.99.... before that is was COH:OF for £14 and ill probably buy Killing Floor for £11.... total that up and it equates to one PS3 game in general!

Good point matt0r, should've called it something else.

Kotcik does help make a few bob for Activision, and thats the worry.
Short term gains with the constant rehashes makes for longer term stifling of the industry.

Similar to what happened in the banking industry, no one really looks at the bigger picture if they are doing well in the present. By the time it does hit home its too late.

Hey thats the best analogy I could think of on a Sunday morning!
