Endless Space - 4x4 Strategy Space Game ( INDIE )

Bought this on Steam and have been playing the Alpha you get on Steam with the preorder. TBH I'd be happy paying for the game as it is in the alpha at the moment!! It's cracking, sat down about 5hrs ago for a quick blast and have been glued to it ever since. It's very Sins of a Solar empire but with a couple of twists which keep it fresh and interesting.

Highly recommend it for 4X fans and like I say the state of the Alpha is very impressive and probably worth the £17 preorder on steam as it stands!

Absolutely. I paid for the Emporer version and I don't regret it one bit. 170 turns and 4 hours last night of solid gaming. And this just the Alpha! Obviously a little way to go (they need to improve the trading/combat/diplomacy a bit) but it's great. And very relaxing to play.

Are 4x games like this similar to Civ or Homeworld. I like the depth the videos seem to show, but my favourite space game has always been Homeworld.

I've put a few hours into the Alpha too and it's fantastic! Very much looking forward to seeing how it develops with the help of the playerbase.

It doesn't have the RTS combat of Homeworld, more high level strategy like Sins of a Solar Empire.

i bought this too, and ive been loving it loads. reminds me very much of Space Empires 3 from back in the late 90's (one of the best 4x games EVER made imo)

Any personal screenshots? :)

Nice thanks

Is it campaign based or skirmished?, is it like moo 2 or sins of the solar

It's only an alpha atm so a lot of options are restricted, ie race selection etc. At the moment in the alpha you can only play a race restricted (player controlled at least) single player skirmish.

This looks great - I'm a big fan of these games (Space empires IV/V, Sword of the stars etc). Looking forward to this.

Just thinking if I should buy now and play alpha or wait for the finished game.......

That's Star Ruler. ;)

Bit of a mental game, really. I bought it back in beta and have dipped into it every now and again but, shamefully, haven't played since the full release. It's unique in that you can build pretty much anything you like to whatever scale you like, i.e. you can have ridiculously huge ships if you have the resources and inclination. Fascinating little game really. It even has a built-in IRC client that the devs hang around in. :)

HEADS UP!!

Amplitude Studios is working hard and is close to release a new alpha version for Endless Space. Their expectations are to release the new alpha today on Steam. You can see the full list of changes, additions and fixes here.
Some changes/additions I retained:

  • Added a drag and drop function for the items of the construction queue
  • Fixed an issue where AI fleets can initiate a fight during the “End turn” phase
  • Added a warning message if you don’t have a research in queue on end turn
  • Added a warning message if your bank account become negative at the next turn
  • Exchanges can no longer be made in cold war or war
  • Added a colored symbol to most of the icons of the tech tree
  • Improved the 3D viewport in the Military and Ship Design screens
  • Added background elements in the Battle view (asteroids, wrecks)
  • Added a zoom level slider in the Galaxy View
  • More here.
Endless Space is currently in alpha but you can already pre-purchase on Steam and start playing now. You have a preview of the first alpha released on Steam on May 2, 2012 here. The game is expected to release on Summer 2012 with the boxed-version expected on Aug 24, 2012. The publisher, Iceberg Interactive, is also planning for French and German versions of the game.

I really am gonna get this game, looks great. But with a list of games i want to finish first ill hold off. Besides the alpha is really a bit too early for me, beta i would 100% play it.

Even with alpha's and Beta's I'll never pre-order a game again, wouldn't mind a quick sneek peak before purchasing lol
