Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

I'm at home all day, we have quite a few 24/7 electronics like router, NAS etc.

Our house is just brick with no cavity wall and the floors are floating over a cavity which vents to the outside via airbricks. We don't heat our house that much but we easily burn through about £6-7/day in gas if its cold.

Me too, I have probably more drives running than you do even with an 8 bay NAS and another whole bunch of drives connected!

My average usage per day is 16~ kWh, two of me using electric like I am I would consider extremely high usage.

If you have a smart meter have you dug into when and where it's used?

My base load is 400W or so with nothing special going on. Your average based load is above 1kW for the whole day.

I assume gas heating is separate? if not what is your split? I'm probably incorrectly assuming your £300 is all electric only.

Wow thats impressive then.

Did you do anything special or it just gave you a ton of points?

Just turned off the heating, made sure the washing machine/tumble/dishwasher weren't on and delayed starting dinner. I have no idea how we managed to save so much to be honest...according to their email it was 3.75kWh. I guess maybe the recent cold weather means our heating usage has been a lot higher than it normally would be, factoring into their saving calculation?

Due to the way the algorithm works, if you use extra power in the -4h to -1h window of the session, it will count towards your returns.

Solar and Battery isn't necessary to use this, it just makes it easier because you can store the power, and also on-demand not use any in the session.

So it's rewarding load shifting to the timeframe a few hours ahead of the session.

Popped to the local supermarket today to grab a few bits.

Kenco Coffee +50p (now £6 for 200g jar, was £4 for 200g)
Marmite +90p (now £5.65 for 500g jar, was £4.75 for 500g)
Crunchie 4 pack +10p (now £1.35, was £1 a year ago)

At the rate everything is going up, I'm gonna have to start up an OnlyFans account!
Aldi pack of 2 1/4lb crispy chicken burgers.... this time last year 99p, current price £1.49 (this is normal prices not cherry picking special offers)

But the boats!

Checked my electric bill today -- Gone up from £34 a month to £43.

Where do they think we get our money from - Money trees.

Dreading when the assistance is stopped. Oh well perhaps we can eat cake.

America at 1/4 truflation vs UK and currently dropping.

Prices are falling pretty rapidly in the US, my utility company is dropping natural gas prices by 23% in a couple of days. I've noticed food is getting cheaper too - there are a lot more deals around and the ridiculous price increases have stopped.

I'm up to £21.70 in my Octopus saving session fund now.
Sure, the individual session savings are small payments, but they start to add up.

I think in the UK we'll be getting rinsed for a while longer yet...

Rent inflation I see nothing to suggest it wont be here for years to come, mortgages dependent on interest rates going back down, which I think isnt likely until overall inflation goes below 5%.
