its a post code lottery, my SC is "only" 48p

happy with the price cut obviously but still waiting for the other shoe to drop on the 15p export. i would not be surprised if that is cut to 10p.

price wise EON are offering some good prices however personally i like Octopus as they seem to constantly be the ones leading the way on the novel tariffs where as the others are just playing catch up.
My export is fixed until november, i cant see a 33% cut coming……..

all I can say is I was with Eon before I was with Octopus and I had zero issues. Bills were accurate, on time and they direct debit was set at an appropriate level.

Under my current stint with octopus, I’ve had more issues than I have ever had with any other supplier. While they have dealt with it when I have contacted them, I shouldn’t need to contact them to send me a bill or credit me for my export.

To be fair I have had this as well.
I was an Octopus customer before it was trendy and left about 2018/9 as I was annoyed they kept changing bills.

When I switched back in 2022 a couple of months later, same issue.

After talking to their reps what I found was their system doesn't like errors.
So if you have an old error they can force through a bill fix, but it will likely be unhappy again the following month.
You need it fixed by a "billing specialist" and at that point it should be good going forwards.

From what I could tell my issue was an old smart meter reading issue.

Octopus seem to be able to fix issues, and quickly. Maybe they get more due to system robustness.
The others I have found if you get an issue you can be waiting months and months to get any response.
Many of them are leasing Kraken as well so its going to be sure better to be with Octopus who wrote it as opposed to a company leasing it.

It would certainly take more than a few pennies for me to move from Octopus.
The others like EON are just reacting and copying with tariffs, you can tell they are scared.
I cannot think of the last time I heard of someone moving from Octopus, yet the other way is constant people moving to them.

Sorry, I’ve not been following this tread nor have I kept a close eye on the energy market.

The issue is that I’m a low energy user, even in winter I’m below the average but this hasn’t stopped the cost of electricity raising.

I’m current with octopus as I was transferred over from bulb and using there default flexi plan.

Due to my history of low energy use, it was never worth me fixing into a plan.. so I have no experience in this nor what is considered as a “good deal”.

Is now a good time to fix? If so; what electric only fixed plan is considered the best overall?

I’ve tried using uswitch but it doesn’t seem to make me any recommendations.

Thanks

All I can say is I have been with a different energy provider pretty much every year for the last decade, one year I swapped between 3 suppliers. Other than chasing a refund from the supplier I was moved to after my supplier went bust, I have never had a reason to contact customer service until I have been with Octopus.

Given the responses I have had from them so far, I’m reasonably confident that it will get resolved but the fact remains, they are the only supplier that has managed to not bill me correctly, let alone more than once.

To give credit where credit is due, they have bought some very innovative tariffs to the market and they are definitely leading the industry at the moment.

However, that doesn’t give them a free pass when they make mistakes or their tariffs are not the most competitive on the market. I also don’t think the sun shines out of their backside, they are ultimately looking to make a profit from my custom and I treat them accordingly.

The post is to add some balance to the almost universal praise which octopus get online, particularly from influencers who want their £50 referral.

Sounds like you have been very lucky then. Like you I would switch annually, have done for 20 years.
The big difference as I say is that with the rest when something goes wrong its an absolute nightmare to get it corrected.

And again as I said, with Octopus their system seems to have an issue when something is wrong, probably IMO due to the amount of data that they need to be correct.
Most of the others will bill you once per three months, using two pieces of data. Octopus need 48 a day for elec!
When I have talked to them it seemed that the main issue was a data point amongst that massive pile of data, hence why they have billing specialists. They seem to be able to trigger some recovery that fixes the smart data.

Don't get me wrong, as I said I was an Octopus customer when they were tiny compared to now, and I had issues back then as well.
Recently I think you can see the system struggling, probably due to bulb, things like previous days data used to be there early am for me, now it can be late pm.

They defoo moved the market and you can now see the others starting to react. Thats great, bring competition and bring more chance of further improvement.

Octopus software isn't that great, can't even manage the clocks changing to BST on the Tracker Tariff it seems.

Also their CS has nosedived in my opinion over the last 12 months.

EOn still hounding people about smart meters.

Now they have changed their tactic and gone for

w22Ya2l.png

Which is an out right lie, the government does not expect every home to have a smart meter by 2025...

The whole "Government expects every home" comes across as threatening, get your meter NOW!!!! or there may be consequences...
yea there might be, but not for your customers....

Government recently consulted with suppliers and other industry stakeholders on its proposal for 2024 and 2025, and now has new targets for suppliers to install smart meters in at least 74.5% of homes and nearly 69% of small businesses by the end of 2025.
is what the government actually said....

if only an organisation existed to protect consumers from deceit, manipulation and out right lies.

I also wonder why the target for small businesses is lower, and what the percent is for Big business.... I'm guessing 0%

The companies who push these smart meters probably don't even use them

Getting a smartmeter has massively cut my energy costs compared to the economy 7 I was on beforehand.

Octopus GO rates from July.

"The key things you should know are: From July 1 2024 your off-peak rate will fall to 8.5p/kWh, and you’ll gain an extra off-peak hour between 04:30 and 05:30am."

SC is scary looking, wonder how much mine will go up by at the end of my 12 month agile contract (up to jan/feb 2025).

Ofgem are doing a second review of SC right now after pressure from the government but of course no assurance they will do anything.

No we don't, there are plenty of industrial buildings, large car parks etc that should be used before agricultural land. Importing more food into the country is not environmentally friendly.
There is tons of unused fields.

Looks like we found 4 of the nimby's on here. :)

Got no objections to roof tops being used, but the problem with that is they tend to be just used to power that building, not as a regional resource.
