Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Agile looking nice at low/mostly negative through out the night and day - will be taking advantage of the free/paid to use energy tomorrow, lots to wash, dry and bake :D

Yeah that's my thought... My usage is that low that a small decrease in unit cost wont make a difference. Given the SC has ramped up so much in the last 12-24 months, this is likely to have a bigger effect on me.
From an SC perspective it might be worth it, but the exit fee isnt appealing.

Lets say e.g. if from now SC is increased by 20p a day on average over the 2 years. Thats a saving of around £146. Over the 2 years. Less than the exit fee. So if you take it I think you commit to it for the two years.

I am effectively fixed myself on the SC currently, as Octopus started doing fixed term again for Tracker/Agile tariffs. Of course these have no exit fee's so are a no brainer. So I already avoided the spring/summer SC increases as I fixed at start of the year.

Something I learnt about the Octopus tracker from an email - since our smart meter has been broken a while, is that it's based on an average over the month rather than usage per day.
Is that just when they cant get consistent readings, ie you smart meter is broke or all the time? If the latter then shifting your heavier uses to the cheaper times would make no difference? its 11.69p for me today

I'm a bit worried it'll shoot up come winter.
The tracker seems to be three or four months ahead the normal price. I think the cap is predicted to go up again in October so it should be good. I've had the tracker within 9% or so of the standard rate but never any closer.

Today is a great example of what happens when it gets a bit windy. It's 44% below the standard rate.

If you've not already got it, grab the Octotracker app. I don't know about Android but iOS now has a widget and notifications are on the way.

Ok cheers mate.

I only switched to Octopus about 2/3 months ago, I had the intention of getting on the tracker.

We have solar and last 3 months we've spent very little on electricity when factoring export, obviously that changes significantly particular from about mid Oct - March weather dependent.

So just don't want to be in a position where the solar becomes negligible and then octopus whack the prices right up on the tracker.

Ahhh, just checked that tracking app and my octopus app, they've changed us over to the tracker already, I only put the request in yesterday.

Unit price today here is 15p p/kwh, and we export through Scottish power at 12p p/kWh.

Not bad!

We will be in profit today for sure.

It's reasonably windy I think is why it's cheap today, we live in the Cambridge fens, and there are wind turbines everywhere.

Is it worth looking at Agile over the Intelligent Go tariff for my upcoming EV? If I can get electricity for zero pence overnight?
Probably intelligent go. Your Zappi is compatible so you can move right away.

Agile if fine if you don’t use electricity during 4.30pm-7.30pm otherwise it could be quite costly. There is also usually a morning spike.

I think it would depend on how often the overnight portion on Agile is below 7p. If its regular it might be worth it, if not then it won't be.

I havent moved yet because im on tracker and its cheaper than Intelligent Go without the EV, which isn't coming for another few weeks.

Agile can be all over the place in terms of pricing, even overnight. It basically just depends on how windy it is at any particular time.

IMO it is only worth it if you can be really flexible with your usage or you have batteries to mitigate the peaks and take advantage of the lows.

Not worth its own thread but will my EV be able to feed power back to my house? the MG5 has vehicle to load capability but the only way Ive seen it used is someone plugs in a 3pin plug adapter to the charging socket. It would need to backfeed through the zappi and into my CU.

No, you can plug stuff into it only via that adapter.

I guess in theory you could install a generator socket in your house with a manual switchover like many have in America. You’d need to be fully cut off from the grid and you’d be limited to a 3 pin plug as that’s all the MG can output.

You can just drop back to SVR if it shoots up massively so no need to worry.
This is important, tracker type tariffs on Octopus have no exit fee or obligation to stay on them.

The only restriction to prevent people from constantly hopping is they wont let you rejoin them until after a cooldown period.

No. Its not normally below 0. Look back at average prices for each slot, the 7p on Go is very competitive.

I'll be switching to agile in autumn again for winter but I have no EV and I automate the charging of my battery in the cheapest slots so I don't have the hassle of looking at pricing each day.
