Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Tracker is close but it's still below for the time being at least
The difference is widening now. I had my 20% lower figure about tracker confirmed in MSEs latest email although it mentioned the past few weeks it's been smaller savings over the price cap. Not too fussed on certainty as it looks like the fixes won't save much.

I went for the Octopus Fixed that is slightly below the price cap with no exit fees. With the referral credit as well i should save a little over the winter. Then if the price cap drops dramatically next year at some point there is no penalty to leave.

Not much to lose really, and was very quick and easy to change over to them.

i just fixed my Gas with Octopus for a further 12 months........ worst case scenario even if gas prices drop it is not gonna be that big a drop.... but with all the crap going on at the moment it just secures me against any silly price blips., The unit price is actually a tiny bit less than i am paying now, albeit the SC has gone up a bit.

I got the email warning me my existing cap was running out on 25/10 2 weeks ago. Word of warning to anyone on an intelligent tariff for their electricity. the link octopus sent me would have put me on a new gas AND and new electricity tariff which would have been a disaster.

i noticed however and emailed octopus instead and within 2 hrs they had put me on the correct fixed gas, and left my electric alone.

I've just done the same. Should save a few quid off the cap so its something.

@bigmike20vt @Zaphan58 I have been toying with fixing my gas as well. Currently it's on the tracker but the past couple of days have been over 5p per unit and I can only see it going higher due to this middle east conflict. What unit rate and SC are your gas fixes at please? My electricity will be staying on Intelligent Go.
Daily charge28.95 p/day
Unit rate5.83 p/kWh

past week or so the heating has started coming on for short stints.

we don't turn it on as such. it's set to either 19.5 degrees or 15.5 degrees (depending on what time of day or night it is)all through the year on a set weekly schedule.

I turned it on two weeks ago, a few quid a week for a toasty 21c comfort is worth it for me. Gas for heating is such a small part of my bill anyway, it doesn't make sense to skimp out given i've optimised my heating system for the best efficiency it can get:

Around 33% my bill a year is gas usage which is £515, of which £180 is hot water and cooking, so £335 a year to actually heat the house in winter. Generally we have the heating on for 6-7 months, the data these numbers are from it was more like 6. So £56 a month over that period to have the house at 21c 24/7 is a comfort worth while in my eyes.

21! Anything above 18 and I feel uncomfortable. Surely it’s more than a few quid to maintain that temp?

Visited my sister on her barge the other day and the air temp was 27 degrees from the wood stove and back boiler. They are just packing up to house sit in Spain for a few months but yes 18 to 20 centigrade is enough by me.
