Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Who cares if they go bust in 6-months, theres a tiny inconvience of being bumped to another sub-optimal supplier and you can switch to your preferred right away.
My main issue with their current setup/feedback was zero confidence in managing anything other than basic tariffs. It's a big enough pain when Octopus can't onboard your meter and they are the best in the industry.

Gas is a whopping 6.35p per unit today on the tracker which is the most expensive it's ever been. This time last year it was 3.64p per unit!! It's looking like the time to fix has arrived but the single fuel tool doesn't work. I have tried two different browser and the app on my phone and it fails straight away. I could phone them but I prefer to make an informed choice first and that includes seeing unit rates and SC fees. The tracker renewal see's the SC go up another 2p per day and it seems to be on less favourable terms meaning that the cost is going to be higher so that's probably a non starter for me.

I'm considering the Octopus 14 month fixed.

What makes me laugh is when the trend forecast indicates prices will be lower tomorrow, then it updates and it's 40/50% higher.
Tempted to go fixed, but it would not change until the middle of march. By then, would prices be more favourable on the flexible? I'll need to dig out my crystal ball.

Compare it to the price cap in your area and factor in its going to rise about 3% in April. IMO the time to fix was a few months ago when it was down at 21p. You dont have to move both fuels either, can fix for one and stay on tracker for gas if you wanted.

I left Tracker (Dec'23) for electric about 10 days ago and fixed at 21.53p.

I looked at the new Dec'24 rates that I would be moved onto next month and decided it wasn't for me anymore.
There is no exit fee on my fix so can also switch again if it becomes worth it.

I think the biggest issue, when seeing what the rates are currently, is that it wipes out so many days of being under the price cap. Some days you might save 2p, 3p or 10p per unit at best, but like tomorrow, that wipes out a couple of days savings in one fell swoop.
I do think it's a tactic to get people off the Tracker tbh.

My Tracker renewal is:
  • Electric - 23.86p / kWh & 66.26p / day
  • Gas - 6.31p / kWh & 29.76p / day

14month fix is:
  • Electric - 22.94p / kWh & 66.26p / day
  • Gas - 6.25p / kWh & 29.67p / day

I think I need to get solar + batteries sharpish

Octopus 14 month fixed for me (from 03/04/25) I'm quite tempted to be honest. Tomorrow my electric is 45.17p /kWh which is just lol...

Electric:
Standing charge :54.85p
Unit rate: 23.66p

Gas:
Standing charge: 29.43p
Unit rate: 6.03p

I've just fixed as per above. Because I'm 49 days away from my current Tracker ending, I had to contact them to get it changed otherwise it wouldn't have kicked in until the current Tracker ended. They've moved me from now and because of leaving the Tracker early, I can't rejoin it for nine months. I can live with that.

Wow, those rates are quite a lot lower than London area. Especially the Electricity standing charge!
I'm not even that far away, I'm in Essex so it's energy zone A.

Thanks for the info, I have 57 days left

I've gone for the Octopus 14 M fixed as well. Tracker has been great but I think for me it has had it's day and served its purpose.
No more 'Woohoo!' when the price drops by a few pence or '****!' when it shoots up.

I've been in DEBIT (yes, debit) to Octopus for I would say about 4 months in a row now. They don't seem to care, nor are they putting my monthly fixed payments up to compensate them. I wonder when I will hit some threshold that triggers something? It's only about £100-200 debit, but my monthly payments over winter were not adjusted so I constantly owe them money. It will probably recover towards the end of summer as we use less if everything is left as is.

I pay for what I use and not a penny more. Each month, I transfer an amount into an interest bearing savings account and each month, Octopus take what I've used I'm not paying them to keep an account in credit when I could be earning a little bit of interest myself.

Aye, now I need to get out of the habit of checking OctoTracker each day. I've deleted the widget and turned off notifications :D

Just made the switch from BG standard variable to Octopus Fixed 14.
I selected Medium energy usage and the offer had higher gas unit price than we have now. I then reloaded the website, selected higher user and it offered a better price on gas. :)
