Is it time to start looking at electric blankets before they sell out? Are they going to be the next toilet roll and high end GPUs, with people buying them by the pallet load and selling them to shivering pensioners for £500? :p

Any recommendations? Needs to be kingsize and dual control since my other half will most likely have it on max and still feel cold, while I'll be sweating my **** off XD

Honestly get some extra duvet/blankets. They are like 150watt and cost £60+ for something decent so for that you can just yeah more duvet would generally be less monies especially if you take electric costs into account. If you are wanting to warm bed up prior to getting in then a few hot water bottles will be enough about 30 mins prior to getting in just to radiate heat.

If you really feel you need one then look up Dreamland products. I have their electric heatpad that I use on my back at times which helps.

i wonder if octopus energy will do their free electric blanket scheme again this winter?

personally for elecric blankets i was planning on having on whilst in bed, whilst i know nothing about i would not skimp on getting a cheap one from alibaba etc, i would pay more and get from a reliable source.

perhaps me being paranoid but if i was sleeping on it with it on, i would want it to have all the UK or EU fire safety regs

Oh absolutely - Silent Night or Slumberdown seem to be the main ones to go for... Maybe I'll just get her one of those heated throw/hoodie things for Christmas

I'm not sure extra duvets would quite cut it - she complains of being cold when she has a duvet and 2 thick blankets while wearing a hoodie to bed

Fair enough. I am probably not best to advice otherwise because I overheat in winter under a 4.5tog and summer sleep without a duvet pretty much. I can't ever imagine being cold enough with duvet, thick blankets and hoodie. However extremities of body are where cold gets worse so giant fluffy socks and a onesie might help more then.

Something like;

Private companies are recording year on year record profits, all the while the tax take gets squeezed onto the working class.
Sooner or later people will have had enough and will demand more be done to reign in these ludicrous yearly profits from companies who avoid paying appropriate tax on the business they conduct within the UK.

Large corporations have teams of tax specialists, lawyers and accountants that ensure they exactly the amount of tax each country they operate in is paid as required by tax laws of said nations.

Good luck trying to put the squeeze on multinationals in Europe as they‘ll just ”do an Amazon” and structure their business so that the majority of their sales are declared in the country with the lowest taxes.

The NOAA forecast for winter 2022 said, “It’s looking more probably that La Niña will lock in by this winter.” This year will probably be a “second-year La Niña”. This means an increased chance of colder conditions and above average snowfall until spring 2022.

El Niño and La Niña have their biggest impact on global climate during the Northern Hemisphere winter. During past La Niña winters the Alps has seen record amounts of snowfall! So early signs are looking good for UK skiers desperate to make up for lost time on the slopes due to the pandemic
Last winter was a warm one. I wonder what we will get this year.

To be honest, I’d just get a one that fits the size of your bed. Ours is a no name brand and we have had it for years.

They don’t use much power if you don’t leave them running for hours and 15-20 mins is more than enough to get them up to temp.

For the record, an electric blanket is far, far superior to a hot water bottle. Just don’t fall to sleep with it on, you’ll regret it when you wake up covered in sweat and dehydrated.

Yup, use one when we visit my mum over Christmas* - my other half makes it a condition of us actually staying there :p

* big old house up north, no central heating, ice on the inside of the windows in the morning - I love it, but I'm very much in the minority!

We have ours plugged into a smart plug too, so it starts warming the bed 30minutes before we usually plan to get in.

I bet Russian troll farms will going flat out over the next few months to try and stir things up but whether people will actually protest I don't know. A lot of it will come down to the message coming from Downing Street, are we all in this together with appropriate support or will Liz Truss gives us a motivational speech about how we just need to work harder.

I don't think people will protest. Or they may do, but it won't be enough to make a difference. We're not a country of widespread protesting. A few people may do but it won't change anything. Then the government will do nothing.

Maybe the earth will really have its revenge for all our destruction of it and give us a bleak winter

I bloody hope so.

NHS losing good staff

I'm not surprised. One can make a tonne of money on Only Fans or Chaturbate. Like I've said, I know one girl who's started doing it. If I were a half attractive girl I'd consider it too.

One of the worst things about the NHS is the career progression. There is no automatic promotion like in other companies, you have to apply for everything, even your own job sometimes. You can be stuck in the same banding for years.

It really is a sign of the times. In the '80s and '90s the attitude was "porn demeans women" etc. Now it's empowerment. Good thing too, I say [protip: it was always empowerment, it's just that now it's becoming more normal for your average person on the street to do it].

Hell yeah. If I was a girl I'd be on it too.
Its a no brainer.. Work 9 to 5 every day, no money.
Or only fans?

I have to admit I'm jealous! You don't even have to be attractive!

So 4 people have left to make porn and that means people are leaving in their droves to make porn? Seems legit.

You have to wonder how much porn the journalist watched to write that piece
